  1. Dak Prescott (will be stuck in wage scale for four years)

Zeke Elliot (monster RB with four more years)

Jaylon Smith (Top 10 talent...wait and see for 2017)

    O Line ...enough said

Jerry has assembled a strong young team. Is already re-doing some O line contracts, defense may be suspect, but look what he assembled in one or two years.

    Meanwhile, in Buffalo:

    Tyrod

Old Shady with a lot of $$$

Dareus (3rd pick, lots o' $$$, groin is ouchy)

Sammy (gave away three first round picks for a WR with a hurt foot)

Lorax (love the guy but age will catch up to him)

    Shaq (missed 7 games)

    Gilmore...(fill in the blank)

Jerry has every reason to be named "GM of the Year"

I live here in Dallas and have observed Jerry since he owned the team starting in 1989. He is a brilliant marketing person but a numbskull in the personnel/gm area. Just about everybody else here thinks so as well - possibly including his son. There are other folks involved with the Dallas Cowboys that are either influencing Jerry or calling the shots at this point. Whaley is not perfect but way better than Jerry. Look at the FA pickups, Jerry could never do that. In his day his signings were dreadful.

  2.

Hmm. Joule-Thomson effect is not really going to apply to the inflation of a football.

Btw, if you are thinking about the cold air coming out of one of those air dusters, the air is cold due to vaporization of the liquid in the can. Its not cold because of Joule-Thomson .

    You are correct - mostly.

Air does cool when it expands. If you have a high pressure line and a gas is released it will cool, in some cases drastically. This type of system is used in many applications from swamp coolers in desert homes to cooling of IR systems in Military applications. The total pressure drop is what is important and how rapidly the pressure is released.

When you are inflating the ball it is not expanding into the ball, it is being compressed. If you are inflating the ball to 13.5 PSI you only need a little more than this to move the air into the ball - not enough pressure drop to cause a temperature change in my opinion.

You could design a simple machine to heat the air and manually pump it into the ball.

Who knows what happened.. probably the Pats ball boy just let a little air out of the ball and got mixed up and forgot about ball #12.

Fun to talk about tho.. I can't get enough of it

  3. Here's an idea...

The Patriots could have inflated the balls with heated air. Let's say it was at 120 Deg F air and the balls were inflated to 12.5 PSI with it shortly before they were inspected. The balls are insulators so you probably would not feel the heat trough the bladder and synthetic leather. In 2 hours the temp cools by 70 degrees F (Colts game temp was about 50 degrees F) and the pressure drops to 10.5PSI. I have not run the numbers but maybe not that far off - I have a mech engr degree but not as famous as Bill Nye!

Belicheck could use the above procedure, never deflate the balls and probably follow the rules to the letter as he says. They could even have a chart that provides the starting air temp to get 10.5 PSI based on outdoor temperature.

If they have some type of machine that inflates them could be realistic. If it is just a hand pump then not going to work.

Yea I know crazy idea, but the Patriots are kinda crazy also..

  4. I live in Dallas. The Dallas Morning News performed a financial analysis shortly after the new stadium opened in 2009. In summary, Jerry's PSL's + the tickets for the first year just about paid for his $650M share of the stadium. Some of the PSL's down low are $150k per seat with ~$400 tickets. I sat in one of those seats for a preseason game and they were nice, with a decked out food/bar area behind the seats. If you are in the upper deck it is not even worth going to the game - saw the Bills from up there.

I also have read that after Arlington makes their loan payments on the stadium they are $1-2M ahead each month based on tax revenue from the stadium.

It can be done, just takes vision and business leadership.

  5. Here is a link to the SMU Mustangs field, also installed by A-TURF.

http://smumustangs.cstv.com/facilities/ford-stadium.html (Just click on the photo gallery link a little way down on the left)

http://smumustangs.cstv.com/view.gal?id=5796 (this should be the photo gallery).

Probably look very close to our new field once it is installed. Back in the 80's the Mustang unis (Eric Dickerson era) had a strong resemblance to the Bills as well.

I live near SMU, they always go with the best.

  6. I live in Dallas and was listening to the Ticket/1310 today when Searcy was picked. The host, Norm Hitzges, was bummed. Said the Cowboys had their eyes on him and thought he would be their pick in round 4. Norm has had an annual draft show for at least the last 25 years and knows his stuff. Thought Searcy had a chance to start for Dallas.

A little while later Norm said Buffalo was a candidate for best draft. In years past he has been very critical of Buffalo.

This is the best I have felt about the draft and Bills direction in years.

  7. I live about 10-12 miles away and could hear the rumbling this morning. Amazing.

This stadium has fallen into disrepair and was probably the worst in the league. The only thing Jerry took care of is what showed on TV. The city even forced him to repaint the roof a few years back.

Rich Stdium was a nicer place to watch a game.

  8. Take this for what it is worth - a coworker of mine played on the Eastern Illinois national champ (div II) team, 1979 or so.

Shanahan was head coach along with several current NFL assistants such as John Teerlink and Mike Heimerdinger. Said the year before those guys got there the team was not very good.

Shanahan and crew won the championship with pretty much the same players from the year before. My friend, who experienced that first hand, said as far as he is concerned it is "all about coaching".

Need a good manager and good players.

  9. Just because YOU can not think of anyone does not mean there are not sharp older owners. I know an owner of a multiple million dollar real estate firm who is older than Ralph and still make multiple million dollar deals beating out younger and better financed rivals. He still plays chess and beats people rated Master competitively and knows legal laws related to his industry as well as any young buck. He tires more quickly and does not work as many long hours but does not need to since he made good hires; he still has final say when he chooses to exercise it.

Maybe it your mental competence you should check?

Well Billswatch then go and get your Millionaire buddy and have him buy the Bills and run them.. also you forgot the "is" when asking me to check my mental competence.

  10. It is sad to say but Ralph appears to not be mentally competent.

I saw the Hall of Fame Speech and was taken back during the "oxygen bottle" commentary. I kind of was in denial. Who knows what is really going on behind the scenes. But if Ralph is pulling strings on a day-day basis it is a bad deal all the way around. I can't think of anybody his age that can run a football team or any other business that is this competitive.

I have been following this team since 1965 or so. I will always love them, but this is probably as good as it is going to get until the team is sold. I hope not, but have lost any confidence in Ralph making a sound decision on a consistent basis.

Sure is tough to keep the faith.

  11. The Chargers did the smart move and took him. They ended up with Rivers and other picks that led to this:

"Eli Manning was traded for the rights to sign Philip Rivers (who the Giants had just drafted) and 3 draft picks that the Chargers used on Shawne Merriman, Nate Kaeding, and Roman Oben. Rivers, Merriman, and Kaeding all reached the Pro Bowl."

What is wrong with that? Looks like our new Country boy pulled one over on the city boys..

  12. Hello Mr Wawrow.

What impact did Linda Bogdan's passing have on Ralph's decision making? It seems as though over the past couple years the decisions at One Bills Drive have gotten wackier. Possibly she was a "football voice" that could overturn Littman/Overdorf if all they care about are numbers. Clearly she was a member of the inner circle. Linda may have been able to provide some balance and Ralph most likely would listen to her. Do you have any insight into this?

    Thanks..

  13. I don't blame him. As hard as it is for us to watch this team these players have to live in this. It must be very tough mentally to get up and go through this year after year physically.

Schoebel has pride, slow or not.

We can talk about New Coach, GM, Scouts, Draft..but until Ralph and Littman are no longer controlling things it really will never change. It is sad and a waste of a lot of people's time.

  14. I live in Dallas. There is no way that Jerry Jones will give complete (or even a lot of) control to any coach, He is the owner and GM. The coach, whoever it is, will have to play with the players that Jerry provides. Parcells was here and cleaned things up but Jerry appeared to drive him nuts in the end and he left.

Dallas has everything else - money, status, stadium, fans (almost as good as Bills fans) and an owner that really wants to win but that owner will run the show. The owner also hires the assistants, although he did back off on that some while Parcells was here. But a lot of the cronies are back now - Garrett, Campo...

Not all the big name coaches will work out here. Maybe not any. Probably why he has Wade. Also Jerry does not want to share the spotlight which is why he does not like the big name coach.

I don't see Dallas and Buffalo competing for the same guy.

  15. Simple is good. Here is a link to the 1994 Bills historical playbook:

    http://www.scribd.com/doc/2944874/1994-Buf...fense-Marv-Levy

Scroll about halfway down to the 56 play. I read (In Levy's book I think) there were games that they called the 56 or 57 for about half the plays. The opponents knew what was coming but they could not stop it due to excellent execution of a well designed play.

I am no football expert but believe that Schoenert had installed some type of West Coast offense. It looked that way on TV - the only drives that we had that went somewhere were a bunch of small gains. BIll Walsh was in Cincy before Schoenert arrived so that is probably his base philosophy.

I say good riddance to Schoenert. His sour comments show his level of professionalism. Let AVP install the 56 and 2 or 3 other plays and see how they do.

  17. Rams - Bills 1981

We sat in the upper deck for this game. A guy near us passed out and missed the end of the game. We got out to the parking lot and were hanging out for a while. We looked back into the stands and we could see the guy still up there, passed out head between his legs, just like we left him. He was the only guy up there, this was a good hour or so after the game ended.

Giants - Bills Monday Night 1974

I was in the end zone, high up in the lower level. We noticed every body moving away from something but we could not figure it out. We looked up and saw a guy going hand over hand on the cable that holds the net behind the goalposts. He went all the way across where several cops helped him back over the wall.

Those are a couple I will always remember.

  18. I moved to Dallas from Williamsville in 1981. Have stayed loyal all these years, I would hate to see the Bills move away. I have proudly worn my Bills jersey before the super bowls and the day of the Monday night game last year. I tried to take some heat for the homeland - screw the Cowboys.

That said, the major thing that will cause them to go is Money, or lack of it in Western, NY. When I come back for a visit I notice things that are quite different to me but may have seemed normal if I had stayed. The thing that stands out the most is Celino & Barnes. They have commercials on all the radio stations, there own little jingle, I have even seen them advertise on the ribbon at Rich (can see from Direct TV). They supposedly had $100M in settlements last year. Think of that as $100M in jobs moving away from the area and all that wealth being transferred to about 30 lwayers and their clients. Yea some of it was legit but I am sure the personal injury laws in NYS are tilted help the clients and lawyers make money. I am sure there are a lot more of these firms out there. By the way the 30 lawyers each cleared $1M on average.

The economy is bad all over but why would a company locate in Western, NY? People are great and there is an available work force but NYS is a costly place to do business. Maybe some type of uprising is in order to get WNY set up so companies will move there. I would help you guys if I could..

I like to look at the posts on this board and everybody complaining about Jauron & Wilson. The Cowboys situation is way beyond any disfunction the Bills have ever had:

    - Wade Phillips as coach - He still does not practice special teams - The entire Bills coaching staff is an upgrade

    - Jerry Jones - Be very happy with Ralph Wilson. Jerry is in this for ego and money. We have a new stadium here, oh yea the PSL for a good seat is $150,000 each. How many of those would sell in Buffalo? Also you have to buy the tickets after the $150k. When was the last time that Ralph hired all the assistants, checked the waiver wire, had his own radio show...on and on and on..Jerry is insane to a degree.

I guess I had to make a first post sometime. Thanks for giving me an avenue for my Bills Fix.
