He was the reason too much $$$ was wrapped up in Penny & Googs for too many years. + Uncle Spliffy, the whole Marbury thing. The Q. Richardson thing was bad too. Had a lot of coin over a lot of years only move him after one season. The lack of bench depth really hurt them down the stretch last year, compiled with Richardson & Marion completely disappearing during the playoffs. (Marion has shown up a little lately, thought he was only "the Matrix" against teams like Golden State or Seattle) He managed to pull out of the nose dive towards the end of his tenure. Getting 2 1st rounders & Diaw for Joe Johnson was clutch. Getting Raja Bell on the cheap was good as well. Filled some of the depth with good role players like Eddie House, James Jones, Tim Thomas & Brian Grant (when healthy) while letting other players like Barbosa develop. He has left the team in good shape draft wise & I think cap wise. Haven't heard a whole lot of who Sarver got to replace him. He seems pretty hands off for now.
-
Also Jerry Coangelo was squeezed out of the D'Backs by his partners. He wanted to keep pumping money into the franchise and ended up almost devaluing the stock of the orginal major shareholders. He did well in that market until it got too big for him. Sarver owning the Suns is a really good deal right now, they kept the Coangelos around under 3 year deals until the son left to run the Raptors recently & the old man was put in charge of USA basketball. His son did a heckuva job building the Suns, got lucky on a few trades + Amare sliding down to him. The only somewhat big problem was Bank One (now Chase Field) & America West (now USAirways Center) were built with public money but never put up for a vote. With the Coyotoes & Cardinals having to jump through all sorts of hoops to get their buildings planned & completed always made his dealings look shady.

Phil is going to drop the hammer @ Bonnaroo. Closing out sunday night. FINALLY HEADLINING. John Scofield is signed on so far. No word on anyone else.
my wish list:
Rob Barraco - keys
John Molo - drums
Joan Osbourne - vox
Barry Sless - gtr/pedal steel
Larry Campbell - gtr/pedal steel/mandolin/violin
Not sure how likely that both Sless & Campbell will be there with Sco in the mix. Trey looks likely since he played during the last NYC run (soundboard released )
Also, looks like a summer tour will be in the works. Greg Osby's website has him hooked up with Phil late june thru mid July.
6.28 - 7.21
Locations TBA

I don't know, I haven't lived in WNY for about 18 years. I do go back once or twice a year though. It seems like the downtown "revitalization" has been sort of mishandled for a long time. He would be wise to be leary of what has gone on before, and who wants to do what, in the future.
I am still not quite sure what the rub is with your father/casino (sorry, no direspect intended, you were just being sort of vauge) and Golisano. I do know, however, that Golisano got very wealthy by being smart. Greedy too, probably. But, he also seems (at least from what he has said) smart enough to know that the success of his other businesses, depend on the economy of WNY.
I am not being delusional, to think he would just write a $700 million dollar check to Ralph, all the problems are solved. It just seems that he represents our best hope of retaining this team in WNY. I think he is iintelligent enough and wealthy enough, to not try to rake the area over the coals, because it would not be in his best interest, ulitmately.
BTW, in one of the articles about his interest in buying the Bills, it was mentioned that Golisano, early on, was initially rejected as a possible owner for the Sabres, by the NHL...anyone know/remember why?
It might take a group of local investors and maybe a few of them out of towners to keep the team in town. Golisano doesn't seem like the Daniel Snyder billionaire type to buy the team as a "plaything". He'll want it to be a working model, which given the market, will be a hard sell. I'm sure he likes the publicity that comes with being mentioned, but that appears to be it. As far as Ralph going to Albany singing the blues, I'm with whoever on the news last night that mentioned, "If you want public dollars, then open up your books." It's nice Ralph had the team since day one and it's really sad that he's the last of a dying breed that didn't make all his money somewhere else. (microsoft, AOL)
-
Someone on 930 yesterday was saying that Cleveland screwed up by developing their waterfront, now they have nothing to dream about. The dream stays alive in Buffalo.
-
The rub being that Golisano wasn't too excited by anything being built downtown that would mean money walking out of his building and going somewhere else. he wants it on lockdown. Came off as overly arrogant, wanted to see what sort of numbers the casino pulls in, which isn't a secret.
psst. here's another hint, he's in artvoice this week, something like pg 8. nice hachet piece.

Not declare war, you douche, just not totally kissing his ass like everyone else. Somebody has to pay the taxes if the franchise changes hands. It might not be worth for the other douch (Golisano) to buy the team if the market isn't there. You think there's not an outside chance that he's not entirely thrilled with purchasing the Sabres. But that would screw up your fairy tale, wouldn't it? Speculation is soooo much fun isn't?
-
-
Too bad the guy's a complete assbag. He along with the other 6 guys that own everything downtown will want to control all rights and not fork out a dime. Might as well have Ralph keep rolling through animatronics, like the hall of presidents @ Disney World. The Sabres will win in spite of him.
-
Very very outside chance the show can continue at this point. Too bad really.

I usually think it's sketchy when the paper has to mention that the team is NOT interested in a person @ a position of need. Might as well say they aren't interested in moving the pick if someone calls.

They love to celebrate the ballhog on ESPN. I heard they were going to dip HIM in bronze and hand him out as a courage award every year. "Here you go, A-Rod"

Might have to skip Darien this year. Leaving for Bonnaroo that day. Oh well. Still on for most of the west coast.

Didn't Losman back up Ramsey when they were both @ Tulane? Did Tulane become a QB factory recently? I know the Bills haven't developed a QB in decades but C'MON!!
-
You meant nice new deal as in playing Professional Football?
He might get a good deal to check id's @ Mickey Rat's this summer. Perhaps the casino needs a greeter, either him or Baby Joe.
-
It really looks like they are getting not so heavy on the jambands. Should be one more big name added. More rock-based. Maybe the wookies will stay home. I've had a blast the last few.

Looks pretty solid, like to hear the Trey-Gordon-Billy set. I'll jump on after the holidays when I get back to more dependable high-speed. I also saw over @ philzone.com that they are releasing the SBDs from 12/03 Buffalo show with John Scofield. Streaming it and mp3s now, SHN later. Really good show, was at that one.

I like they got after "having episodes pulled" and using Family Guy as a vehicle. South Park has had it's moments, it's not as consistant as it was in the past. Family Guy is solid, but falls flat when ANYONE sings. You lost me on scrubs. I'd put that on Earl type funny = not every episode is THAT good and some are pretty stinky. Still not as good as the formerly best show on televison...ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT.
