  1. Mario will be in demand if he is a FA. He would be a nice fit for New England if they can afford him.

Of course they can afford him!

Players like that have already stuffed their pockets from a desperate team and can now afford to take half the money to go to a winning team that has a chance to win the Superbowl.

  2. It's irrelevant to this board first and anyone who wants to bring religion into the place and space we come to avoid real world issues is a fool or worse a missionary. Second, the only thing "closely intertwined" is that religion is a fantasy and you can play fantasy football.

  3. Living here in the Dallas area (Plano) and pleased that the Mavericks won and going on to the finals. I really enjoy watching the games but it's not like watching the Bills or Sabres.

I wasn't quite old enough to really remember the Buffalo Braves even though I vaguely remember watching one game on TV.

    Happy that Tampa Bay won!

  4. "I am ecstatic to come to work for the New York Giants," Fewell said. "It's a good football team with good defensive players, and it is a franchise known for defense."

If he said that they had a "better" football team and "better" defensive players, it might be a shot. However, if he did say that anyway, it might not be a stretch. I don't see any parting shots.

  5. Look, I'm a little P/O'd by what I've been reading but I'll make this as quick as I can.

Just about all I've been reading is how Brohm is a bum because all he did was make a lousy imitation of Fitz and Edwards..... duh! Well, lord almighty fellas, I mean think about it; isn't that really quite an accomplishment when you think about it? After 5 weeks with the team, after 3 little days working with the first team who's names he hardly knows; making his first start ever in the biggies; playing behind undoubtedly the worst OL in the league; saddled with an incredibly stupid game plan devised by possibly.... no, I mean surely the worst coaches in the league, hey..... not Manning, Rivers, Brees, Brady, none of them could have looked good QB'ing the bumbling Bills yesterday. None of them!!

I'm not saying that Brohm is the answer but I am saying that MAYBE he is and we just need to take a step back and really evaluate given the circumstances.

Brohm was just as good (or bad) as Fitzpatrick and Edwards. Given that he only had one week of practice with the starting roster, I think that already shows that he's the best option. He definitely made quicker decisions and got the ball out before he got killed.

  6. I think Polian almost wanted to lose that game yesterday. If they go 15-0, the pressure to play starters in Buffalo is great. I believe that was in the back of his mind. No way did he want to play Manning, Wayne, Clark, Freeney, Addai, etc... in frozen Buffalo against a rag tag team like the Bills that have nothing to lose by blitzing all day. I mean now they can just leave those guys at home so they don't have to get chilly and catch a cold on the sidelines.

I gave it some thought last night and I agree with you. They probably didn't want to have to play in Buffalo next week and risk injury just to keep the perfect season alive. There would have been a lot more pressure for them to win at 15-0 knowing how the Bills should be an easy win. I just wish that they would have purposely lost to some other team than the Jets. Maybe they wanted a lame team like the Jets to make the playoffs; easy pickings later on.

That said, I still don't know why they didn't go for the win. The starting O-line was giving Manning excellent protection. I can hear those corks popping in Miami and it's sickening.

  7. Back in '82, the game b4 the strike, IIRC against the Vikings, was either on a Tues or a Thurs. (I remember who I had dinner w/ that nite b4 going to the game.) I'm assuming it was a Thurs, as I don't ever recall Tuesday games.

I think you're right on this one being on Thursday.

  8. As far as the NFL Network wanting to stay on the Basic Tier, the NFL is the most watched sports league on the planet...perfectly reasonable that they want their exposure to be at a maximum. A sports tier should be for the regional and specialty sports channels, IMO.

Regarding who's at fault...Time Warner or NFL Network on pricing

I heard this from a buddy of mine who lives in the city

When Adelphia was running things, they added NFL Network, ESPNU, and several other channels to their basic line-up and prices went up $2.22 a month per subscriber.

After Time Warner took over and then subsequently dropped NFL Network and, I believe, some of the other channels that Adelphia had added, they kept the rate hike that Adelphia had put in place to cover the cost of those channels.

Simply put, Buffalonians are still paying for NFL Network but not getting it.

If the NFL wants more exposure, why did they go exclusively with DirecTV? They could have created a reasonable plan that allows cable companies to also buy in to the deal. As with everything, it comes down to money.
