Bills hope new DE Casey Toohill is just scratching surface of potential

‘“I love that characterization,” Toohill said by phone from Virginia. “Honestly, in terms of my athletic career, ever since I was young, I’ve always kind of come on a little bit later. I think development has always been important for me. My best year in high school was my last year. My best year in college was my last year. I think, as I go forward in the NFL, I still feel great and I feel like I’ll keep improving.”‘

Future of hip-drop tackle to be discussed at NFL meetings

‘“We looked at 20,000 tackles and the hip-drop (injury rate) is 20-25 times as frequent as a typical tackle that led to time lost,” said Jeff Miller, the league’s executive vice president of communications, public affairs and policy. “Frequently, they were major injuries compared to run-of-the-mill tackles.”’

Bills expected third-round comp pick in draft, but received a fourth. The GM isn’t happy.

‘“It did surprise me. I think us and San Francisco, we got a raw deal,” Beane said, adding the 49ers received a lesser comp pick as well. “I don’t want to give a full thing, but we had separate Zooms with the league trying to go through how it was calculated because by even their accounts, as we were checking with them through the year, we clearly had a third-rounder. It was a major blow because we had planned for it and San Fran felt the same way.”’

‘”Yes, we were glad that the cap got to where it did, but we were still in the high 40s (millions of dollars) over that we needed to clear just to get cap compliant into the league year, much less be able to spend, and we still have to hold money for our draft picks, replacement costs, practice squad, all those things. So even as you see where our cap is, we still have to hold some money back.”‘

‘”The seats were very expensive, not even including what your Season Tickets cost. If you were going to finance it, it adds an additional almost $12,000 on to the PSL. It was $20,000 per-seat, so it came up to $52,000 if you were going to finance it. Then the season tickets ended up being a 25% increase over what I’m paying now, so it would have been about $63,000 for the PSL, and then my first year of season tickets. And they couldn’t guarantee the tickets would not be going up.”‘
