Tyrod Taylor, Corey Coleman, and Allen vs. Mayfield: Bills at Browns loaded with storylines

‘Tyrod Taylor won’t have a chance to play the Bills this regular season since the two teams aren’t on each other’s schedules. So, short of facing one another in the playoffs, Friday night will be the only chance this season for the former Bills’ signal-caller to go against his old team. Despite spending three years as the starting QB in Buffalo, and being at the helm when the organization broke it’s infamous seventeen-year playoff drought, Taylor was shipped off to Cleveland for a third round draft pick last March. There’s no doubt that, even in a preseason contest with limited opportunities, he’d love to put a couple scores on the board and show the Bills they made a mistake.’

‘”The issue with Corey here was there was some maturity issues… you got to see that first hand on Hard Knocks when he walked into Hue Jackson’s office, started crying and complaining to Hue about being demoted to the second team offense when all he’s doing is dropping footballs, running the wrong routes and not doing what (Browns offensive coordinator) Todd Haley needed and expected of him. Maybe a change of scenery will fix some of that in Buffalo, but here in Cleveland, if the Browns had hung on to him, it was not going to end well.”‘

Excited about a preseason game? Me too

‘Next on the list for me, and a pleasant surprise through (I know, one meaningless preseason game), is the variety we saw from offensive coordinator Brian Daboll’s scheme. Lots of different formations and personnel groupings shuttled in and out of the game against the Carolina Panthers and the offense moved crisply and performed well. This was enhanced by the effectiveness of the quarterbacks but maybe, just maybe, the quarterbacks threw the ball well in part because Daboll’s offense makes sense to them and presents obvious easy options as to where to deliver the ball. This really is something to watch as we head into another game. More positive signs in this regard certainly won’t guarantee that it carries over into September, but it would at least be encouraging.’

That’s all you can ask for at this point as we continue to focus on the process of what leads us up to the season.”’

‘”I think all three have certainly had their moments, both good and bad,” McDermott said. “The great part about these young men is that they’re learning from the ones that haven’t gone their way. As we continue to grow as a football team, they are continuing to grow at the quarterback position as well.”‘

‘”He played at Wyoming,” Ramsey said. “Every time they played a big school — like, they played Iowa State, which is not a big school in my opinion because I went to Florida State — and he threw five interceptions, and they lost by a couple touchdowns or something like that. He never beat a big school. If you look at his games against big schools, it was always hella interceptions, hella turnovers.’
