Observations: McDermott plays it close to the vest in 28-27 preseason victory

‘McCarron’s tough preseason continued.’

Confident Kim Pegula: ‘We’re getting the right people’

‘”Honestly, I’m very excited about this season coming up,” she said. “Obviously, the quarterback situation, Brandon made some great moves to put us in that position and, for me, it’s really looking at building on last year.”‘

Bills add female coaching intern for season

‘Schecter, 28, spent this summer with the tight ends during training camp at St. John Fisher College. She was selected through the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship, and was one of six female coaching interns in the league.’

Bills’ Harrison Phillips signing autographs for charity

‘Autographs and inscriptions on any item cost $20 apiece, and all proceeds will benefit The Playmakers, a nonprofit organization in which members mentor at-risk minority youth.’

Pro Football Focus analyst pinpoints Bills’ offensive line struggles

‘Last year’s starting right tackle has started all three of Buffalo’s preseason games at the same position, totaling 101 snaps over three games. The Bills’ offensive line collectively allowed 16 pressures against the Bengals last week, yet Mills was responsible for none of them and he’s surrendered a total of just three pressures this preseason on 63 pass-blocking snaps.’

Final score and recap: McCarron saves game and maybe job in Buffalo Bills 28-27 win

‘The Bills were down to fourth-and-23 from their own 3-yard line with under two minutes left but McCarron bought time in the pocket and threw a dart to Keith Towbridge for the winning TD pass with 13 seconds left. McCarron finished 13 of 34 for 156 yards, 3 TDs and 2 INTs and he also scrambled for 54 yards and a TD.’

If only that was a regular season game: Bills pull off huge rally to beat Bears

‘Good for them, though I put very little stock into what happens in the preseason games, be it one-sided losses or miraculous comebacks. Despite the rally and victory, which produced a 2-2 exhibition record, let’s put things into perspective. It came in the second half of the fourth preseason game and I still think it’s a stretch to think that Sean McDermott’s second team is at the same level as his first, which somehow found its way to the playoffs last year.’

Pollock: Despite the rally, McCarron won’t emerge as Bills’ starter

‘In a game where he was set up to succeed, McCarron was nothing short of awful until the game seemed well lost.’

AJ McCarron to Bills teammates before comeback: ‘This is going to be legendary’

‘Through two quarters, McCarron had a zero quarterback rating and two interceptions. When he walked into the locker room, a glance at the scoreboard revealed a 20-0 deficit that was partly his fault. One of the interceptions was a pick-six that Doran Grant returned 33 yards for a score.’

Bills’ Travaris Cadet on trying to earn roster spot: ‘I’ve done everything I could’

‘”I did everything I could to come back and I wanted to be fully healthy and fully ready to go 100 percent day one of training camp,” Cadet said. “But when you have an injury like that it’s a process and you have to be patient.”‘

Bills vs. Bears: Breaking down players on roster bubble (10 observations)

‘After getting signed away from the Cincinnati Bengals in the offseason, McCarron was the favorite to win the job, especially if rookie Josh Allen needed more time to develop. But Nathan Peterman’s strong play and McCarron’s injury forced the veteran to the back of the line, and now he is in danger of not making the team at all.’

Alabama NFL roundup: AJ McCarron leads 24-point, fourth-quarter comeback by Bills

‘Asked during his postgame press conference what the full-game performance said about McCarron’s status with the Bills, Buffalo coach Sean McDermott said: “I don’t know if it says anything other than he was out there competing at a high level. I thought he brought our football team back and showed great leadership and had one heck of a comeback out there. It’s a great job.”‘

McCarron rallies after poor start, Bills beat Bears 28-27

‘McCarron was 13 of 34 for 156 yards and had an interception returned for a touchdown in the early going. He could be the odd man out if the Bills decide to go with two quarterbacks rather than three.’

McCarron and the Bills come back to beat the Bears 28-27

‘McCarron then connected for another touchdown to cut the lead to 27-22, with a 6 yard touchdown pass to Malachi Dupre. However, the Bills again failed to score on a 2 point conversion. The Bills got the ball back again before the two minute warning, and McCarron and the Bills took the lead with 13 seconds left to complete the comeback thanks to a 6 yard touchdown pass to Keith Towbridge.’

Bills’ quarterback, wide receiver, and tight end battle still unsettled heading into preseason finale

‘At tight end, Charles Clay is the starter. But after him, you could list the next four in any order on a depth chart and it wouldn’t surprise me – Logan Thomas, Jason Croom, Khari Lee, and Nick O’Leary. Keith Towbridge is probably the sixth player there and a long shot to make it. However, all of these tight ends provide something that appeals to offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, whether that’s a good matchup in the passing game or an ability to block on the line. It might simply come down to what type of tight end he and McDermott want to keep as they look at building their roster.’

Sal’s Sticks: Bills at Bears

‘I think McCloud was already safe going into the game, but some believed he was on the bubble, and if that’s the case, he needed to make some plays too show why he’s deserving of a roster spot. He certainly did, especially on special teams as a punt and kick return man. The rookie sixth round draft pick returned one kick for 32 yards and averaged over 14 yards on three punt returns, and all the while did it in tight traffic, making oncoming tacklers miss.’

Joe B: 2018 Buffalo Bills 53-man roster projection — Final Cut

‘The wide receiver group came down to whether or not Corey Coleman and Ray-Ray McCloud would be on the roster. Ultimately, I have the Bills keeping both because they provide the Bills with something unique.’

Joe B: 5 takeaways from Buffalo Bills GM Brandon Beane (8/30/18)

‘While this wasn’t an outright admission that Nathan Peterman will be the starter to open up the 2018 regular season, his performance combined with every bit of information we’ve gotten from the Bills when they speak makes him the favorite to be the guy in Baltimore.’

McCarron heroics lead Bills to victory in preseason finale

‘Facing 4th-and-23 and in the shadow of their own end zone on the 3-yard line, McCarron threw up a prayer, which fell incomplete. However, the Bears were flagged for roughing the passer, giving Buffalo new life.’

Bills GM Brandon Beane Reflects on Preseason

‘”Nobody talks about Nate,” said Beane. “He’s not flashy, he’s not the sports car. He’s just steady Eddie. He’s going to get you to work every single day. That’s why we love him. I know nationally and even locally people doubled who Nate was. But when you know the kid, he never pointed fingers , and the guys on this team really saw that. When he was down in the dumps guys patted him on the butt said “hey lets go” and he showed up. When Brian Daboll got here, he was there to meet him in his office, and started learning this playbook and we’re happy for his success and look forward to seeing what the future holds for him.”‘

5 Questions: Corey Coleman

‘”It really starts with making plays on the field and then they do all the measurables — the 40, vertical, broad jump and go through the roof with those and then you have to match it with your play.”‘

McCarron leads the Bills to 4th quarter comeback

‘As the season approaches, the next step for McDermott and the staff is to trim the roster from 90 to 53 ahead of the 4 p.m. deadline on Saturday.’

Game recap: Bills QB AJ McCarron leads gritty comeback in preseason finale

‘A.J. McCarron led the Bills on a 12-play, 84-yard drive capped off by a seven-yard touchdown pass to Keith Towbridge. A failed two-point conversion put the Bills up 28-27.’

Top 3 things we learned from Bills-Bears

‘Much like the quarterbacks who sat for the Bears game, it was very telling that in addition to Charles Clay it was Jason Croom who sat out the final preseason contest. It could mean that Croom has earned a spot on the 53-man roster after his impressive performance against Cincinnati.’

Bills Today: Beane and McDermott focused on creating long-term success

‘“I’d love to look at it as the start of a foundation, laying that bottom floor of a culture,” Beane said. “I don’t think you can totally build a culture and have everything work perfectly in one season. But I do think setting a standard of an expectation, what we expect from the players, what they should expect from us, what we expect from the grounds crew, the equipment guys—that’s what I would like to look back at, that everybody understands their role, and we expect everybody to work at this standard, at this level, and no matter what happens you have to keep it at that standard.”’
