Blake Bortles Did Just Enough, Like He Has All Season, as Jaguars Shut Down Bills

‘The Bills’ final two first-half drives ended with puzzling throws by Taylor and even more puzzling play-calling from offensive coordinator Rick Dennison. On the second-to-last drive of the first half, a heavy dose of LeSean McCoy in the pass and run games carried Buffalo to the red zone, and after stalling at the three-yard line the Bills were set to kick a field goal. But the Jaguars lined up int he neutral zone, gifting the Bills the ball at the one.’

‘The Bills really hurt themselves with dropped passes. Multiple players were culpable. And they often came on critical plays that either took away what should have been a first down or would’ve put them in a much more advantageous position to get one when they really needed it.’

‘Like the Bills, the Jaguars decided to do everything to stop the run and make the other team’s quarterback beat them. Sadly, the Bills were unsuccessful. McCoy gutted it out with 75 yards on 19 carries and added another 44 yards in the receiving game, but a Bills passing game that was the worst in the NFL during the season was awful once again.’

The Jaguars committed a terrible encroachment penalty on what would have been a field goal attempt which gave the Bills new life, and a 1st-and-goal opportunity from the one-yard line. The Bills had everything lined up and would have jumped out to a 7-0 lead, which, for this game, would have felt insurmountable based on how Jacksonville had been playing on offense. It was the ultimate swing play.’

‘With 1st-and-Goal inside the 1, instead of running for a potential touchdown, Tyrod Taylor threw to the corner of the endzone to Kelvin Benjamin. The pass fell incomplete, but Benjamin was called for offensive pass interference pushing Buffalo back to the Jacksonville 11 yard line.’
