'Richie Incognito: "We have 16 games to prove what type of team the 2017 Bills are. This is the first step. We’re going to come out of the gates red hot. We have a lot to prove to ourselves, and that’s all that matters."'

'True that, but the Bills are going to have to guard against overusing McCoy because he is engine that drives their offense. He is the most indispensable Bill. Twenty-seven touches per game equates to 432 over a 16-game schedule, and that’s not going to happen. There was much concern going into the season about who would spell McCoy – a role Mike Gillislee so capably filled last season before bolting for the free agent dollars the New England Patriots threw at him. If the Jets game is any indication, the new Gillislee may be Mike Tolbert, a 5-foot-9, 260-pound human bowling ball who rushed for 42 yards on 12 carries and also caught a pass for 12 yards.'

'A win that puts them in sole possession of first place is nice but it was against the worst team in the league. Things will get tougher and it starts next week.'

'McCoy had 159 yards from scrimmage, with 110 of them coming on the ground as he averaged five yards per carry and went over the 12,000 mark for career yards from scrimmage.'

'The reason Ducasse is inactive is likely rooted in the fact that Ryan Groy offers more position versatility as a backup as he’ll serve today as the backup center to Eric Woodand the swing guard, should anything happen to Miller or Richie Incognito.'

'“Super talented front, they have a bunch of first-round picks up front. They have some linebackers that really can fly around and hit people. It’s going to be a challenge for us front to get a block… it’ll be a good test for us,” Incognito said.'

'Under the tutelage of old-school run-game enthusiast Greg Roman and Mike Shanahan disciple Anthony Lynn, the Bills were well below the league average for pass attempts, while Dennison's Broncos offense threw it right at the NFL average. The league's average completion percentage was 63 percent. Collectively, the Bills completed 60.3 percent of their throws, and Tyrod Taylor's completion percentage was 61.7. The combo of Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch completed 59.5 percent of their passes.'

'With new offensive coordinator Rick Dennison at the helm, can the Bills field a more competent passing attack? Let's look at the aerial effectiveness of Dennison's offenses in the past.'

'McCoy has proven to be a running back capable of production in a variety of offenses, and he had plenty of success in a zone-blocking scheme in Philadelphia, which bodes well for his 2017 season in Buffalo.'

'Bills fans seem ambivalent about this year's squad. Sources tell me season-ticket sales are down significantly, perhaps by as many as 5,000. Two days before the season opener, the Bills still wouldn't release any official numbers. As I recall, they couldn't wait to tell the world in 2015.'
