Brees leads Saints past Bills, 35-17

‘Bills quarterback Thad Lewis was sacked four times, intercepted once, lost two fumbles and appeared shaken up at times, but stayed in the game, finishing with 234 yards passing and one touchdown. Buffalo’s Fred Jackson scored on a 1-yard run.’

Saints activate Graham; Bills scratch Spiller

‘The Bills have scratched running back C.J. Spiller because of his sprained left ankle and starting linebacker Manny Lawson because of a hamstring pull.’

New Orleans 35, Buffalo 17

‘Buffalo quarterback Thad Lewis was under pressure from the get-go. He fumbled three times, losing two, and threw an interception while completing 22-of-39 passes for 234 yards with one touchdown pass to wideout Stevie Johnson.’

Bills’ Spiller inactive against Saints

‘Last week against Miami, he managed only 11 yards on six carries and had three catches for minus-four yards in the 23-21 victory.’

Saints pound Bills behind five Brees TDs

‘Lewis was under siege in the first half — he had three fumbles, two of which the Saints recovered inside the Bills’ 25-yard line.’

Bills-Saints: What we learned

‘Although it wasn’t good enough, the Bills hung with the high-powered Saints’ offense for about 25 minutes. The defense turned away the Saints with no points after Thad Lewis fumbled on the game’s first play and New Orleans had a first down at the Buffalo 22. But after taking a 10-7 lead, the Bills got caught napping on defense when safety Jairus Byrd was caught going to other way, allowing Kenny Stills an unimpeded 69-yard TD catch down the left sidelines.’

Game Wrap: Bills @ Saints

‘Buffalo struggled with turnovers throughout the first half.’

Bills penalties took away opportunity

‘Today’s loss did nothing to change my opinion. I’m still very optimistic that this organization is headed in the right direction. Of course they aren’t there yet, but finally we’re seeing some good football players being developed. I think Doug Whaley is very capable of bringing in more good players.’

Bills had a tough task

‘Manuel is still a few weeks away for returning so all we’ve really got is their record. I sure hope they find a way to beat Kansas City. If they can’t, the rest of these games before the bye are going to feel at least a little bit like a waste of time assuming Manuel still can’t play.’

Bills game went as anticipated

‘was left with the same thought I had after the Miami game, even though the Bills found a way to leave South Florida with a victory. I miss EJ Manuel. The Bills probably would have lost to the Saints even with Manuel at quarterback but I think he’s a better quarterback than Thad Lewis and at the very least, does a better job of getting the ball out on time and avoiding big hits and possible turnovers.’

Sideline Reactions: Saints 35 – Bills 17

‘The Bills certainly lacked in some key areas which ultimately led to their collective demise, but offered a few bright spots along the way.’

Bills discover Saints not a Brees

‘You have to give Thad Lewis this. He’s a fighter. But you won’t win many games when your quarterback turns the ball over three times.’

Brees In Different League

‘And although tough-as-nails quarterback Thad Lewis has played fairly well in relief, I can’t help but wonder how much further along this team would be if rookie starter EJ Manuel had not been sidelined twice with knee injuries. But the silver lining is that Lewis looks like he may be a competent backup, despite the three-turnover performance against the Saints.’

Immediate reactions: Saints 35, Bills 17

‘Lewis was pressured so much in the first quarter, it wouldn’t have seem that out-of-place if he simply imploded. POP! Where’d Thad go?’
