‘”He made some plays now, but as a coach my job is to be very critical to help him out. He made some great plays for us and he also felt he left some plays on the field and so his numbers could’ve been a lot better. Overall he’s headed in the right direction and he’ll get better in the running game, the passing game and on some down the field routes.”‘

‘”It got to a point where I couldn’t even play basketball with my daughter anymore,” Kelly said. “When I got up in the morning, it took me 15, 20 minutes to even get loose. I couldn’t put socks on anymore. That’s not a way to live. From hits, twisting the body, a little bit of everything. It’s just been getting worse and worse and worse. I couldn’t handle the pain anymore.”‘

‘Kelly wasn’t able to golf this year. Three weeks ago he had surgery to replace two discs in his lower back and had a metal plate inserted as well. “I’ve got two nice scars to add to the other scars I have,” Kelly said with a laugh.’

‘”I never thought this would get to 25 years to be honest with you,” he said. “As long as they keep coming out we’ll go up to 30 (years) and see how far it goes taking it one year at a time from there.”‘

‘"I’ll always love Buffalo," said Nelson, who remembers going to Bills games at the Rockpile. "It was a great place to grow up."’

‘”Now it’s time to go to work and put in the time,” Williams said. “Do your best and prove it to Buffalo why you should’ve been picked.”‘

‘"I sat in meetings, and I understand the schemes and coverages 100 times better than I did coming out of college," Batten said after one of the Bills’ player-only workouts last week. "The big thing is knowing your responsibility no matter what formation the offense gives you and being able to react to what they do and still feel comfortable. I feel I took the mental reps. My goal when I got thrown on IR was to come back my second year with the knowledge I would have had if I played my first year. I feel like I accomplished that."’

‘What’s interesting about the Buffalo Bills’ training camp situation is that this is the last year of the organization’s agreement with St. John Fisher College. So it’s possible that if the lockout stretches through the summer and there’s no camp in Pittsford, there may not be another one, at least not in the near future.’

‘He is a throwback player that loves the game. He comes to work every day. He is a tough physical hard-nosed linebacker. He is the type of guy you want to play on your team or that you want to play with. He will make all the guys on your team around him better. He will give you everything he has in everything he does.’

‘"I had to be here," he said after the last day of training. "It’s great to walk into a situation like this because I have guys from LSU that were drafted that haven’t spoken to some of their teammates or seen their team. Just to get up here and get into the system and kind of get in the groove of not just knowing the whole playbook, but just being around all the guys and start to get a feel for the chemistry of the team."’

‘Bills punter Brian Moorman announced the partnership Thursday and said that in addition, New Era will provide 10,000 pieces of clothing to residents in the Joplin area. Moorman also is auctioning off a game-worn Bills jersey on eBay, with the proceeds going to the Red Cross. Moorman’s college, Pittsburg State, is less than 30 minutes from Joplin.’

‘He is an outstanding young man. He is very smart and graduated from Clemson on time with his degree (in Management). He has great integrity. He is a quiet kid, but he was always very well-prepared for practices and games. He is an accountable, dependable young man and a hard worker.’

‘Speaking for the entire Bills staff, offensive coordinator Curtis Modkins expressed support for team owner Ralph Wilson while distancing himself from the NFL Coaches Association’s decision to side with players in their bid to have the lockout lifted.’

‘"I’m just trying to get bigger, be faster and be more of an every-down receiver," Nelson said last week during the Bills’ players-only workouts.’
