Bills’ Merriman ruled out for Sunday
‘Merriman missed practice on Thursday after suffering a lower leg injury during Wednesday’s session. Gailey announced after practice Thursday that Merriman strained an Achilles.’
Merriman out for Sunday
‘For Merriman it’s the same Achilles that he strained in the preseason, which forced him to miss San Diego’s season opener when he was still on the Chargers roster. Gailey confirmed that it was the same Achilles for Merriman.’
Bills LB Merriman out indefinitely
‘”It’s short-term more than long-term, but we’ll just wait and see,” Gailey said. “We’ll see what happens next week, or it might be the next, I don’t know. We’re going to get him well. That’s the most important thing. Let’s get him well before we put him on the field.”‘
Bills game vs. Lions to be blacked out in Buffalo
‘The Bills didn’t announce how many tickets were unsold as of Thursday.’
Detroit (2-6) at Buffalo (0-8)
‘The injury to Davis, who has 41 tackles, leaves a big hole in a Buffalo defense which already is allowing a league-high 29.1 points per game. The Bills have the sixth-best defense against the pass, allowing 193.4 yards per game, but they’re giving up 265.8 in the last four.’
Bills have hearty respect for Veterans
‘"I think that anybody that’s a true American, it means something to you,” said Gailey, whose father served as a marine in the Philippines in World War II. “What our troops and what our leaders do for us is amazing … we have no clue. I’m still amazed how they keep our country safe, and we’re appreciative.”‘
Shawne Merriman hurts leg in first practice with Buffalo Bills
‘However, there was a reason why the Chargers released Merriman – he has been injury-prone and unproductive the last few years, and that still may be the case.’
Merriman practices, comes up lame
‘Merriman injured his lower right leg, which has been hampered by a sore Achilles tendon this season. Bills coach Chan Gailey didn’t disclose the exact nature of the injury, but said it was a minor one.’
Forget lovable label if Bills falls to lousy Lions
‘Suffice it to say, there won’t be much talk about lovable losers if the Bills lose Sunday. Displaced Buffalo fans will be laughed out of sports bars from coast to coast. The more industrious and humiliated fans will put two paper bags over their heads, in case the first one breaks.’
Hubbard gets the call over Roosevelt
‘"Part of being active for him will be whether or not he’s a contributor on special teams, and he had worked well in practice," coach Chan Gailey said. "Paul had done a really good job of catching balls when he got the opportunities and working hard and hustling. He just looked like size and speed-wise, [like] he was a good fit for us right now. If we needed somebody else outside, Stevie [Johnson] can always move inside. We’d rather not [shift Johnson] right now, but he could always move inside if we needed him to."’
Caulcrick Happy To Be ëBack Home’ On Bills’ Practice Squad
”’My goal is to crack the 53-man roster this season,” he said. ”That’s still a goal within reach.”’
Merriman gives Bills the blues
‘Gailey said it’s unfair to think Merriman will make an immediate impact on the Bills’ 26th ranked defence. “What happens is everyone gets their expectations so high,” Gailey said. “You gotta realize he hasn’t played a lot of football.”‘

‘Gailey said whatever happened to Merriman Wednesday hurts his chances of playing this week, mainly because he has now missed some much needed practice and conditioning time. “It hurts him,” Gailey said. “His chances go down tremendously, they do.”‘
