‘Matt Kofler, a Patrick Henry High graduate who went on to play quarterback for the Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts, died of an undisclosed illness yesterday in his El Cajon home. He was 49.’

‘”We’re obviously not going to the playoffs, but we (can spoil it for) some others,” Edwards said. It’s the role the Bills are becoming too comfortable with.’

‘”Playing 20 years, he’s had the experience of relating to NFL players,” said Kugler, who was the Bills’ assistant offensive line coach last season. “He’s played against a lot of the guys our players are competing against. The knowledge of information he can give these guys is invaluable. He can talk about various techniques and the background of some of the players we play against. And the work ethic that he brings to these guys and instills in these guys, I couldn’t have a better assistant working with me.”‘

‘A whopping 12 rookies (eight draft picks, four college free agents) have played for the Broncos. An NFL-high six rookies have appeared in all 14 games, while eight have started a combined 50 games at 10 different positions. Spencer Larsen, a sixth-round draft pick, started at fullback and linebacker in the same game.’

‘Mostly, astute Bills fans just want to know how someone who has whiffed on more blocks this season than a Little Leaguer trying out new glasses gets a Pro Bowl nod.’
