Bills resign three players

Orchard Park, NY – The Buffalo Bills today announced that the team has re-signed guard Corey Hulsey, defensive end Jarrett Procell, and fullback Josh Roth. All three players were with the team as unsigned free agents during the 2000 preseason and spent the entire regular season on the practice squad. Hulsey and Procell joined the team as unsigned rookie free agents out of Clemson and Louisiana Tech, respectively.

Bills have had an impressive postseason

‘It’s telling that there was no groundswell of protest when Wilson tendered Phillips his pink slip. And, since then, the Bills’ 82-year-old owner has done everything right … either by plan, or sheer good fortune.’

Marvin Lewis's Agent Accuses Bills of Bias

[Article requires registration]

Anderson, Lewis’s very vocal agent, accuses the Bills of bias in the negotiations with Lewis. If anything the Bills were biased TOWARD Lewis for Lewis was the only candidate who got a second interview due to him "not interviewing well" the first time. Tom Donahoe, who hired him before in Pittsburgh, felt he may have been exhausted after his Super Bowl run and wanted to give him a second chance.

Turf is greener on another football field

The Bills line has not been described as tough last three years so following quote may not be a compliment:

"A coaching change could be coming on the Lions’ offensive line. Carl Mauck, who played 12 NFL seasons with four teams, was at the Silverdome on Friday. Mauck has been an NFL assistant with six teams since 1982 and with Buffalo the last three. His units have reflected his toughness as a player."

Detroit News | Feb 5, 2001

Levy, Buoniconti hope their achievements stand forever

‘Marv and a Fish agree – they hope their accomplishments stand forever. With NFL parity, Levy’s record of coaching four straight Superbowls is more likely to stand than Buoniconti’s record of being a member of an undefeated team.’

Lions tap Mauck

‘The Buffalo Bills have lost another assistant coach from the Wade Phillips regime as offensive line coach Carl Mauck has reached an agreement to coach in the same capacity for the Detroit Lions, The Buffalo News has learned.’

A moot point (2001 Sneak Peek: AFC analysis)

‘Fantasy football article about AFC teams, mentioning the Eagles may be interested in Moulds. I guess 6 years, $64 million makes it all moot.’

BillsBeat - February 4, 2001

Numbers game

‘The Bills currently stand about $13.4 million over the NFL’s projected salary cap of $67.4 million for 2001, according to salary figures obtained by The Buffalo News.’

Bills ready big offer to Moulds

‘Greg Johnson, one of Moulds’ New Orleans-based agents…would not comment on the contract, but league sources said the Bills’ offer is a six-year deal worth between $58 and $60 million dollars.’

Buffalo News | Feb 4, 2001

Gilbride candidate for Bills job

‘Bills coach Gregg Williams worked with Gilbride when both men were assistant coaches with the Houston Oilers in the early 1990s. Gilbride also worked closely with Bills quarterback Rob Johnson in Jacksonville.’

Pittsburgh Tribune Review | Feb 4, 2001

The Bills are due for division title

‘The division’s easiest schedule is another huge plus (Carolina, New Orleans, Pittsburgh and Seattle at home; Atlanta, Jacksonville, San Diego and San Francisco on the road). The Bills get a huge break as the only team in the division that they won’t play St. Louis.’

Marvin Lewis's Agent Accuses Bills of Bias

‘Other team officials said Lewis did not interview well, something Anderson vehemently denied. When Dungy was going for head-coaching positions in the early 1990’s, he was also accused of interviewing poorly.’

New York Times | Feb 4, 2001

Modell: Lewis Was Jobbed

‘Modell dismissed any thought of a black-white issue with Bills owner Ralph Wilson, his friend. Lewis is black. "I don’t read anything racially into that," he said. "As far as Ralph Wilson, no way."’
