Two Bills Drive

‘Middle linebacker Terrel Bernard is entering the fourth and final year of his rookie deal. Weak-side linebacker Matt Milano is entering the final year of a two-year extension he signed in March 2023.’

‘The Bills need to create salary cap space, and parting with Miller is by far the easiest way to do it. If they designate Miller as a post-June 1 cut under salary cap rules (spreading out the cap hit over two years), they can drop his cap figure down to $6.37 million and save $14.77 million on the cap. If they release him without the June 1 designation in March, it’s an $8.4 million savings. Could Miller accept a pay cut? Sure. But it’s hard to imagine a $14 million pay cut.’

My enduring memory of draft night is general manager Brandon Beane coming out to speak about the pick and looking genuinely perplexed/annoyed when asked about the negative reaction to it. As it turns out, Beane was 100% right. He nailed it. Those who doubted Allen – again, myself included – were way off base.’

‘“He was such a great teammate and that was apparent from the start when we brought him to Laramie,” Vigen said. “He was going to be a guy people gravitated toward. He was this ultra competitor. He’s easy going, he’s fun loving and he’s still a kid at heart. That’s all real. He’s not trying to be something he’s not. In this world, some guys have to really try hard at that, but it’s not really complicated for him.’

‘If I’m general manager Brandon Beane, dealing with Cook’s contract is not high on my priority list, at the moment. Beane needs to deal with not only getting under the salary cap, but creating enough space to upgrade his roster in free agency. He needs to have a plan for the upcoming draft. All of that takes priority over a possible extension for Cook, who is heading into the final year of his contract. The Bills also have to plan for Greg Rousseau, Terrel Bernard and Christian Benford, who are set to become unrestricted free agents after the 2025 season. Beane does have franchise tag that he can rely on, but that only guarantees one of them is back for 2026 if he uses it.’
