Gray keeps eyes on the future

‘By the end of September last year, the Bills ranked 24th in total yards allowed and 30th in points allowed. However, Buffalo rallied the last half of the season to finish 15th overall and had a pass defense rated sixth best in the NFL. “We started out kind of slow, but I thought we made a lot of progress from the middle of the season to the end. We didn’t take advantage of some turnovers we came up with that hurt us.”‘

TSN's 2003 offensive breakout team

The most obvious pick is Josh Reed of the Bills. "If I were a fantasy football guy, I’d take him," Bills assistant GM Tom Modrak says. With Peerless Price in Atlanta, Reed figures to catch a lot of Drew Bledsoe passes this season. Last year, four Bills players had more receptions than Reed, but none of them had a better average per catch than his 13.8 yards.

Breakthrough players: Twenty in Jenkins' wake

Mike Williams, T, Buffalo Bills: This massive second-year player will be a perennial Pro Bowl player for the next decade. He is a powerful force in the run game, but he also has the good feet for pass protection. The Bills have the makings of a good, young line with Williams the foundation.

AFC East: Pickups may give Bills an edge

The addition of 11 defensive veterans alone makes the Buffalo Bills a serious contender, but the most important acquisition of all might very well be assistant HC Dick LeBeau. He brings the considerable experience and creativity that should allow the Bills to get the most out of their two new high-impact LBs, Takeo Spikes and Jeff Posey, as well as the anchor at the position, London Fletcher.
