Loud and proud

‘The Kansas City Star brought a hand-held sound-level meter to Sunday’s contest. The opening kickoff sent the needle past 108 decibels at front-row level near one end zone, similar to the volume of a rock concert. Halfway up Section 116, cheers for the Chiefs’ first touchdown – a 67-yard pass play to Dante Hall – reached 117 decibels with celebratory music piped in. Fireworks made the meter peak out: 126 decibels.’

Game report

‘Perhaps Williams meant that Holmes wouldn’t get 50 yards in a quarter.’

Kansas City Star | Oct 27, 2003

The drives

‘Despite a 23-point lead, the Chiefs kept Green in the game and he took some punishment.’

Kansas City Star | Oct 27, 2003

ESPN crew has a long, but fun, game day in KC

‘On the air, the antics between Theismann and Maguire may seem a bit contrived. “No, we don’t plan anything like that,” Theismann said. “It just happens. I don’t think of it as bickering. We’re just like a couple of guys sitting in a living room or sitting in a bar, and…”.’

Kansas City Star | Oct 27, 2003

Great eight

‘Buffalo’s best chance to make a game of it failed when Josh Reed fumbled at the Chiefs 32 on a hit by Mike Maslowski. Dexter McCleon recovered the first of seven Bills turnovers, and his return to the Chiefs 45 set up a 55-yard drive capped by Holmes’ second TD, a 13-yard run behind Tony Richardson.’

Topeka Capital Journal | Oct 27, 2003

Just for kicks

‘But Moorman doesn’t play on defense, and consequently couldn’t do anything to stop Hall in the Chiefs offense.’

Topeka Capital Journal | Oct 27, 2003

Chiefs get rout they needed

‘Here’s the list of complaints from Sunday night:

1. Punt blocked for safety.

That’s it.’

Topeka Capital Journal | Oct 27, 2003

Chiefs notebook

‘Kansas City ran its NFL-best takeaway count to 27 by having their greatest takeaway game since getting seven in a 1986 win over the Raiders.’

Topeka Capital Journal | Oct 27, 2003

Kansas City posts the first 8-0 start in the NFL since 1988 with an easy win over Buffalo

‘The second half was only a side-show to see how badly Kansas City could humiliate the Bills.’

Wichita Eagle | Oct 27, 2003

Health problems keep Hunt away from Chiefs

‘The Chiefs had five interceptions and forced two fumbles. Cornerback Dexter McCleon recovered a fumble and had an interception, while cornerback Eric Warfield had two picks. He also forced a fumble.’

Wichita Eagle | Oct 27, 2003

Moorman holds Hall in check in Bills loss

‘But Moorman, a free safety while at Sedgwick High School, wasn’t able to register any tackles on Hall. And rarely did anyone on the Bills defense. Hall, who doubles as a wide receiver, hauled in four catches for 107 yards and a touchdown for the game. He was just one aspect of a Kansas City offense, which tallied 375 yards of total offense.’

Pittsburg Morning Sun | Oct 27, 2003

Kansas City dominates Buffalo throughout, hits halfway point with 8-0 record

‘”It was the most complete game offense, defense and special teams wise,” Chiefs defensive end Eric Hicks said. “It feels great. I’ve been here a lot of years, and we haven’t been to the playoffs in the six years I’ve been here. Hopefully, we just keep chugging along.”‘

St. Joseph News Press | Oct 27, 2003

Green comes up with big block, sparkles in Chiefs win

‘The Chiefs quarterback laid out Buffalo cornerback Nate Clements to spring Priest Holmes for his third and final touchdown in Kansas City’s 38-5 victory on Sunday night.’

St. Joseph News Press | Oct 27, 2003

House Calls

‘Warfield had perhaps his best game as a Chief. He intercepted two passes in the Chiefs’ 38-5 rout of the Bills on Sunday night at Arrowhead Stadium. He also had several bone-crunching hits in the game while recording five tackles.’

St. Joseph News Press | Oct 27, 2003

Eight is not enough

‘Quarterback Trent Green said, while the numbers were nice, they weren’t enough. “We’ve had a great start,” Green said. “But we haven’t done anything yet.”‘
