Mr. Intensity

‘"I love the teaching part of it, passing on stories and techniques and that stuff, but I want to win," he said. "I want to win the Super Bowl. There’s no second. I’ve been second, and it’s not good enough. I’m not a second guy. I want to be first."’

Offensive coordinator Gilbride's easy job: be conservative, yet creative

‘What you want is balance. But what is a balanced attack nowadays? Is it passing 56 percent of the time, as opposed to the 63 percent that Buffalo threw it a year ago? Maybe he got a little carried away last year, but is Gilbride supposed to apologize for an offense that set a team record for passing yards and amassed the second most first downs in Bills history? "Circumstances dictated what we had to do," Gilbride said. "A lot of times we were behind. There wasn’t enough time to focus on getting X amount of runs. We were struggling to stop people."’

Electric Company nears 30th anniversary

‘"Before Montler came, most of us weren’t very good pass blockers. Donnie Green was the best. In our first year, we played Atlanta down there when the Falcons were the hottest team in football. Donnie shut out Claude Humphrey, one of the best pass rushers in the league, and we won the game."’

Bills-Pats...now this is a game worth talking about

‘Bills’ All-Pro wide receiver Eric Moulds cautioned, “We don’t want to make this Drew Bledsoe against Bill Belichick. We’re just going to go out and play our game.”‘

Olean Times Herald | Sep 7, 2003

Bledsoe goes Bowling

‘”I really felt like I went into both games with a very good frame of mind,” Bledsoe said this week. “We started both games and I came out and felt sharp.”‘

Bills face uphill climb in East

‘The Bills haven’t made a playoff appearance in three seasons and there’s talk the drought could end this season.’

Toronto Star | Sep 7, 2003

A very Brady sequel

‘The sobering release of Lawyer Milloy for salary cap purposes last week only cemented Brady’s belief that football is all about business. He saw that first-hand when coach Bill Belichick promised an injured Drew Bledsoe that he’d have his job when he returned, only to change his mind when Brady led the team on a winning streak. Loyalty, says Brady, is simply not compatible with the NFL. “I think it’s OK to think that way,” Brady said. “I learned a tough lesson coming out of Michigan [where Drew Henson encroached on his status as the No. 1 quarterback]. I thought I was owed something. That wasn’t the way it was.’

Boston Globe | Sep 7, 2003

Secondary repercussions

‘Belichick and personnel director Scott Pioli also failed to realize that Milloy’s agent, Carl Poston, had a vested interest in his client not working out a deal in New England. Because Milloy’s contract had been negotiated by Ray Anderson — who later became an executive with the Atlanta Falcons — the Postons received no money for representing Milloy as long as it remained in effect.’

Boston Globe | Sep 7, 2003

The safety is off

‘”I guess it’s an advantage, or whatever,” said Milloy, who headed into the weekend was still uncertain whether he would suit up today against the team he helped lead to a Super Bowl championship some 20 months ago. “But I hope it would be an advantage because of the way I play and not because I was a rat, you know? Giving [the Bills] all the [Patriots] calls — I’m not all about that.”‘

Boston Globe | Sep 7, 2003

Patriots have another ex- factor to deal with today

‘”I think this will hurt the Patriots in signing some of their players,” Milloy said last week. “There’s got to be young guys thinking, `This is the way they treat their veterans?’ That’s going to be out there. You’re going to see free agents think twice before they come there.”‘

Boston Globe | Sep 7, 2003

Bill aim to gain ground

‘The pick: Buffalo by 3.’
