Bledsoe's the fall guy

‘"I’m frustrated, disappointed," receiver Eric Moulds said. "I don’t think it feels like last year, but I think a lot of things we’re doing are uncharacteristic of this team. Mistakes are just killing us."’

Buffalo News | Sep 20, 2004

Erratic Bledsoe not on target

‘Bledsoe threw balls behind receivers. Some of his tosses were too low to be caught. He short-hopped throws. He also was too high on a couple of passes.’

Buffalo News | Sep 20, 2004

Raiders turn up the pressure

‘"Going against their offensive line, we knew we were going to be able to get some pressure," Raiders cornerback Ray Buchanan said. "I’m not dogging them out, but we saw on film we were going to be able to get in there."’

Buffalo News | Sep 20, 2004

These reruns are painful to watch

‘They’re not a good team. They’re a tease, a redundancy, a Sunday afternoon squandered. They are an indictment of their president and general manager, Tom Donahoe, who promised to fill his locker room with tough-minded winners and instead patched together a mentally soft squad that always seems to find a way to lose.’

Buffalo News | Sep 20, 2004

Rice's streak over at 274

‘It ended Sunday because of the tight coverage Vincent and Clements put on him. Vincent had the assignment most of the day and rendered Rice a nonfactor.’

Buffalo News | Sep 20, 2004

Going nowhere fast

‘Running game: F: It’s hard to get a run game going when you can’t sustain any drives. But not scoring on goal line 2 straight weeks is pathetic.’

Buffalo News | Sep 20, 2004

Monday Billboard

‘It’s getting a little redundant, isn’t it?’

Buffalo News | Sep 20, 2004

Bills' Bledsoe way off mark

‘As bad as the Bills played, replacing Bledsoe is not currently an option. The current backup is the well-traveled Shane Matthews. The quarterback of the future — and possibly the near future — is J.P. Losman, the first quarterback taken by the Bills in the first round since Hall of Famer Jim Kelly in 1983. Losman has the mobility Bledsoe lacks, a key factor for a Buffalo team which waived veteran guard Ruben Brown for salary-cap purposes and had free-agent guard Chris Villarial go down with an ankle injury Sunday.’

Ransacked

‘Another mistake-filled 13-10 loss, the same score the Bills fell to Jacksonville by in Week 1, the only difference being that instead of a dramatic last-play ending, this one was a slow but sure death.’

Rochester D&C | Sep 20, 2004

Mularkey's fourth-down call was right

‘But forget all that speculation. This is why it was the right call: Mularkey knew his offense wasn’t going to have a better opportunity to score a touchdown. After watching Drew Bledsoe and his mates stumble around for two games, Mularkey knew he needed to take his shot right there.’

Rochester D&C | Sep 20, 2004

0-2 Bills lost in Raiders' 'Black Hole'

‘Sadly for the Bills, it wasn’t only young players who flunked this test, it was also veterans, led by (cue up the broken record) quarterback Drew Bledsoe. With seven sacks, an interception and too little too late, Bledsoe couldn’t secure the road win he desperately needed to get the critics off his back.’

Rochester D&C | Sep 20, 2004

2-minute read

‘Unfortunately for members of the Bills defense, they don’t have the luxury of ever failing. They have to play an almost perfect game to give this offensively challenged team a chance to win.’

Bills Muddle Through Another Close Loss

‘Gregg Williams was fired because this club was not mentally tough, but after two games there’s been absolutely no improvement in that area.’
