Two Bills Drive

‘McNally acknowledged that in watching nine or 10 Bills games from last season on film, he noticed the same things most Bills observers harped on throughout the team’s disappointing 6-10 season – namely that QB Drew Bledsoe needs to get rid of the ball quicker, the Bills need to run the ball more and the receivers need to run quicker pass routes.’

Opening-day starter: Evans. You can’t keep speed like he has on the bench, especially with Drew Bledsoe chucking it around.

‘"He’s obviously got a very strong arm, and he’s learning," Bledsoe said of Losman. "When you come in as a quarterback, as a rookie, there’s a whole ton to learn and he’s making progress. He’s working hard and he’s made a lot of strides in the last few weeks."’

‘"The feedback I got from (the Bills) was that he performed very well," Rickert said. "Athletically and arm strength-wise, he’s as good as some of the QBs they have on their roster. Having said that, they’re not in position to make a move."’

‘The Bills just don’t make enough big plays. They had only 18 takeaways last year and just 19 takeaways in 2002. It would make it a lot easier for Bledsoe to be able to start from good field position for a change.’

‘The Bills liked what they saw — they just don’t have the room. They have Bryant on a short list of considerations in case they have an injury at the quarterback position.’
