‘“We’ll make that decision when we need to,” McDermott said about calling the defense. “Right now we’re just one step at a time.”’

Opinion: Capaccio: 2024 State of the Bills: Defensive end/edge rushers
‘There are some big question marks with this group this offseason, and they mostly start with Von Miller.’
CBA committee for new Bills stadium meets for first time Monday
‘”The goal was simple: We wanted to get the group together – obviously, we have this tremendous historic opportunity with this Community Benefits Agreement – and we wanted to just establish what’s going to be our cadence, and what type of information and reports we want to establish as we continue to grow in our meetings,” said Penny Semaia, vice president of stadium operations with the Bills following Monday’s meeting.’
5 positions the Buffalo Bills must address this offseason
‘With questions surrounding Stefon Diggs, Gabe Davis likely on his way out, and Trent Sherfield’s lack of involvement in the offense the Bills need to add multiple weapons for Josh Allen.’
McDermott gives insight on defensive play-caller for upcoming season
‘”It’s either have it, or you can acquire a little bit of it,” McDermott explained. “But I think Bobby’s got it, but it remains to be seen to some extent, as well. It’s a projection on my part. But I love the fact that Bobby has the ability to see the game in two dimensions, right? … He’s coached two levels of the defense, the only one he hasn’t coached is the defensive line. But yet, when you work with the linebacker position, you’re working in some ways with the defensive line with run fits and working off of stunts and games up front. So, I think Bobby’s done a good job of that. And I’m excited to watch him grow into this coordinator role as well.”‘
McDermott, Bills focused on finding impact players at NFL Scouting Combine
‘”As a coach, you try to learn from your successes,” he explained Monday. “Dalton (Kincaid), in this case, or (O’Cyrus Torrence), and you say ‘What was it about them and their DNA that allowed them to come in and play early and also play well?’ No two people are exactly alike, but you try to use those traits and say ‘Hey, this is what we need going forward.'”‘
Bills HC Sean McDermott shares these updates on defensive play-calling, new staff hires + more ahead of the 2024 NFL Combine
‘”I’ve had a chance to be around Bobby for a number of years,” McDermott shared. “And that interview has taken place over a number of years, not just one sit down. Bobby’s always been a highly energetic young coach, comes from a coaching family and a coaching background. I just have always been impressed with Bobby’s curiosity about the game, offensively, defensively as well, obviously.”‘

Should the Bills prioritize re-signing A.J. Epenesa?
‘Contracts website Spotrac projects Epenesa’s calculated market value at a two-year, $11.3 million deal. He may have played his way to a more lucrative free agency than the Bills can afford. While the Bills would love to have Epenesa back, financially, that is unlikely to work out for both sides. The Bills have enough other needs that it would be hard to prioritize re-signing Epenesa at his expected rate.’
Bills' Damar Hamlin says that playing for the Steelers one day would be 'a dream come true'
‘As he alluded to, Hamlin has an extensive history with the Steelers’ home stadium. Known as Acrisure Stadium, Hamlin played each of his home games on the Steelers’ field as a member of the Pitt Panthers from 2016-20. He earned All-ACC second-team honors in 2020 after leading the Panthers in tackles and pass breakups.’

Should Bills use free agency, the draft or both to address safety spot?
‘Acquired during McDermott’s first offseason in 2017, Hyde and Poyer have served as beacons for the defense and entire franchise, helping build the Bills from NFL afterthought to their current status as perennial playoff participant.’
Bills Mailbag: Does need for speed at wide receiver outweigh tending to Buffalo's defense?
‘The needs of the team may look very different after free agency, but right now, there’s just so many holes on defense. The defensive side of the ball is where they’ve lost in the playoffs the last few years, and last year’s defensive line group is full of unrestricted free agents. Only four of the 12 are under contract for next season. I know Beane drafting defensive linemen early almost feels like a recurring bit at this point, but with deficiencies at both defensive tackle and edge, I think there’s simply more need there, at this moment.’
Opinion: Capaccio: 2024 State of the Bills: Offensive line
‘It’s pretty remarkable to look at the roster and see only one of twelve players in the group on an expiring contract.’
With NFL's salary cap set, Bills prepare to revamp their roster
‘While the Buffalo Bills will be helped by bump of $30.6 million, up to $255.4 million per team, there’s still some work that needs to be done. According to the website Over The Cap, the Bills are more than $43 million over that threshold when it comes to cap space.’

Ryan O'Halloran: First round draft projections already being kind to Bills
‘Ten players off the board at non-positions of need for the Bills. Perfect for Beane, who could have all his preferences still available.’
After a solid second season, what does James Cook do for an encore?
‘“I think he’s done a really good job. He really has,” McDermott said in January. “You talk about development of players, right – that is coaches’ responsibilities, and players’ responsibilities, as well. And I think James, where you look at where he was in Year 1, to where he was in Year 2, difference, right? And to come in and say, here’s a young man that maybe wasn’t the primary back at Georgia, but became the primary back this season in his second year in the NFL, for the Buffalo Bills, I thought that was very impressive.”’
