‘“You’re talking about these down-the-line guys in terms of what they have to be able to do as opposed to playing just one spot, one position,” Bills coach Sean McDermott said. “It’s hard to keep niche players unless they’re really special. So every situation is different, don’t get me wrong, but the more you can do, the more you help us out holistically on the roster.”’

‘“I’ll be watching on TV and watching on an iPad, so I’m trying to practice that now so when we get into that time, I’m not learning how to do it then,” Hoecht, 27, told The Buffalo News following practice Tuesday. “In the NFL, you have to learn how to play football by watching other people and watching film. It’s a skill that if you want to make it in this league, you’ve got to be very good at. This is a really good test for that.”’

‘McDermott spoke ahead of Friday’s joint practice with the Bears in Chicago, saying he wanted the practice to further evaluate.’

‘Allen connected on a deep throw to Dalton Kincaid on the first play of 7-on-7 drills, as the third-year tight end high pointed the ball to make a contested catch over Bears safety Jaquan Brisker. Trouble began soon thereafter with Tyrell Shavers and Kristian Wilkerson each dropping a pass from Allen. The defending MVP threw three consecutive incompletions in tight coverage, the latter of which got intercepted by Kevin Byard III.’
