notpolian Posted October 3 Posted October 3 Congratulations to the young man. I hope he continues to contribute and improve. 6 2 1 Quote
Sierra Foothills Posted October 3 Posted October 3 He and Sam Franklin are our two most prominent and important special teamers. It's great seeing Buffalo Joe carve out a niche on an NFL roster... especially for his hometown team. It was funny reading the commentary here of those critiquing and criticizing his preseason play. Some here thought he was the worst LB on our team as far as scrimmage defense. Others disagreed. I saw a player who was improved from last year and believe that there's no reason he can't continue to grow as a scrimmage player over time... he's already much better than Tyler Matakevich ever was... FWIW. 7 4 2 Quote
Roundybout Posted October 3 Posted October 3 Good for him! That’s a nice deal for a good depth piece and a local guy. 3 Quote
BuffaloBillyG Posted October 3 Posted October 3 I don't mind this at all. He's a solid special teamer and that's not a huge amount of money. 2 Quote
No_Matter_What Posted October 3 Posted October 3 Interesting. Didn't have this on my bingo card this morning. I guess they really value his special teams play. 2 3 Quote

Same here, NMW, but this may situate the cap wise next season to play around with his allocation knowing they are going to keep him as a special teamer. Quote
No_Matter_What Posted October 3 Posted October 3 Btw this means we have 46 (!) players signed for 2027. That is absolutely insane number. 3 1 3 Quote
PoundingDog Posted October 3 Posted October 3 (edited) Why now? Does Beane have money to burn this season or does Joe needs some money now? Edited October 4 by PoundingDog 2 Quote
gonzo1105 Posted October 3 Posted October 3 He would have been an RFA next year so the Bills are just getting ahead of it to not have to give him a higher tender. Seems like they are trying to get ahead of the books 8 Quote

Seems like they are trying to get ahead of the books Beane is the best in the business at getting ahead of the market. Occasionally it leads to an overpay like Knox or Bernard. But the amount of money we're saving on the likes of Cook, Rousseau, and Brown is staggering. I haven't been a fan of his free agent classes but he is better than any GM out there at keeping his own happy and paying them before the market inflates. 9 13 1 2 Quote

And even then... he's managed to get Knox to take 2 paycuts, and if you pull up Bernard's numbers on spotrac, it isnt bad at all. We've paid Terrel $2.5M last year and $5M this year. By the time we get to any real overpaying, we can cut him and save a bunch of money if need be. 3 Quote

We're stuck with him at an $11.1M cap hit next year which is an overpay but eh I can live with it. Compared to what he's saved by extending other players early it's a drop in the bucket. 1 Quote

If he stays injury free, surely that's not bad for your starting MLB. 2 1 Quote

I don’t think his play has been good enough the last 3 seasons to warrant 11M a year. Coupled with the fact that he has serious triuble staying healthy come the playoffs….i think it’s an overpay. you can’t just disregard his injuries. IIRC, he’s been out with injuries for the Bills last THREE season ending losses 1 3 Quote
