NORWOODS FOOT Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Awesome and congrats to the big guy! Side note: I always find the pointing out of hyper-specific statistical synchronicities to be funny and needless. “He’s the first player since 1963 to start the season with multiple sacks per game after consuming chicken nuggets at least twice per week before said games while wearing a uniform containing the color blue and being left-handed.” Happy he’s doing well. Is he on pace to break Strahan’s sham record or not? That’s all I need to know! 1 Quote

Leonhard has done a good job putting HIM specifically in the position to sack the QB.......because unlike the others on that line he rarely misses the target. Was never going to be a bendy or quick edge guy and he's still not anything close to that but with a strategic pass rush you can bypass that shortcoming and get to this long arms and footlong hands that make him such a sure tackler. Being wider and upright at the snap helps him use that big first stride sometimes as well, which is another unusual trait. Where the hell have YOU been? Welcome back, ya filthy animal! 1 1 Quote

We did have this version of Groot, he was just handcuffed on most 2nd & 3rd downs to making sure you set the edge first no matter what down or distance Quote
colin Posted October 2 Posted October 2 i always thought groot was really good, just not a top end pass rusher. i think his tool kit is a bit deeper than i suspected. i remember posting in a thread here before about an interview w maybe cover 1 and groot -- his advanced stats when lined up wide 9/OLB were kinda shocking. top 5 stuff. so groot is really good, but i think in reality he's not the exploding bendy type who just shoplifts a pass rush win w his bag (like that rookie did last sunday vs dawkins, one time anyhow). he is a good smart strong player with good hustle, and i think leonHARD is scheming up some advantage positions for him. one thing that is for sure, he is tall as a tree and has over 7 feet of wingspan, he is in closing range about 2 feet sooner than most guys. an old saying in drag racing is there is no replacement for displacement, being big and athletic in football is the same, and groot can reach out and touch someone from near long distance range. 1 Quote

I like that. Another thing about Rousseau, is he's always under enough control to have his head up seeking the ball and he has a knack for ripping it out from guys who think they're clear of him. 3 Quote

Haha…even if that was the case I’m sure I was contributing. It’s still an interesting discussion now. Is he viewed as a top 5 guy? He’s clearly getting overdue respect. But I wonder where he falls in the grand scheme right now both in reality and public opinion. Quote

It's a tough question with him because he doesn't jump off the screen at people. You don't see him ghosting people like Von Miller or bending the corner with his shoulder 8" off the ground like Dwight Freeney. He's just so long and strong, with great balance, outstanding vision and awareness. He has a natural understanding of leverage and how to take advantage of it, even when he's too tall to really get under people consistently. I think it may have been BadOl who compared him to Tim Duncan, and that was a great call, imo. He's just a big fundamental who doesn't do anything outlandishly flashy; he just beats you over and over and over and over again and if you play a snap soft, you're going for a forklift ride into your QB. 1 1 Quote
T.E. Posted October 3 Posted October 3 Rousseau coming off the edge out of a two-point stance has been a relevation. I will forever wonder how Tremaine Edmunds would've fared in a similar capacity. Quote

machine gun kelly Posted October 3 Posted October 3 I’m happy for Groot. He is finally coming into his own this year with this scheme. I know he’ll never keep up at this pace, but if he even hits 15 sacks, weve seen a nice change. Between Carter leading the league as a run stopper, Walker’s disruptive nature, flashes from Hoecht, and Chubb, we are finally showing signs of life in terms of pressure. My bold prediction is the secondary takes another step forward tomorrow, and this defense looks sharp. Quote
The Wiz Posted October 4 Posted October 4 (edited) Might as well ask where he was here since the defense (or offense for that matter) did anything today. Total team failure. That's on Brady. Edited October 4 by The Wiz Quote

That's on Brady. Groot wasn't the problem today, NE gameplanned to take him out of the game. Maye was finding wide open pass catchers all over the place. Leonhard needs to get this coverage figured out. Hairston cannot cover 1v1. DBs in zone are too slow to react. It is a complete mess. Quote
