Or they may sign him. It depends on who you sign FA the year he leaves. The way Dallas has been spending, they may get nothing. Steelers know about the possible comp pick as well. Quote

The Pelisserro post does mention specifically getting to start over with an “NFC Contender”, so you may be right. Also.. Joey Porter Jr is a good, not great, CB who wants Top 5 money and that’s known. The only guys going for firsts are guys thought of as elite.. like Sauce last year, which is a massive cautionary tale for trading CB’s. 1 Quote

They think the same— good, not great. my view is that porter is a solid number 1 CB and homegrown kid. Steelers should have overpaid a little to keep him. Quote

He was holding out in Pittsburgh, I don’t see why he wouldn’t just do the same here unless he gets the $$$ Exactly. Though he was holding in not out which is a significant difference. If he's there and participating but keeps coming up with game day reasons he's not physically able to participate Dallas can't really do anything about that other than suspend him. The suspension would be appealed immediately. This is different than a hold out because the games count whether he's active or not because he's present and "injured". I don't really see how it changes the calculus for Porter. He wasn't playing because he wants to get paid and playing risks injury. Being in Dallas changes nothing about that. Quote

Jerry Jones has improved as a GM a lot since the 90s, when he took over for Jimmy Johnson. In the 90s and 2000s, he always seemed to go for big-name acquisitions and would overtrade his draft capital for lackluster "star" players. Even in the draft, they would reach for big-name college players. I think since the 2010s, he's taken a much better approach as a GM. It's gotten to the point where Cowboys fans are now critiquing the team for not being aggressive enough in free agency. The Cowboys most years since around 2010 have had better-than-average to very good levels of talent. The issue is that they never have a great coach because great coaching candidates who have options probably don't want to put up with Jerry Jones wanting to be the GM and hovering over them. The last top-level coach they had was Parcells, and Jerry ultimately ran him out of town. Since Parcells left after 2006, the Cowboys' list of coaches has been: 07–10: Wade Phillips 10–19: Jason Garrett 20–24: Mike McCarthy 25–Present: Brian Schottenheimer Wade Phillips in 2007 was a second-tier retread HC. Garrett was a QB coach for a lackluster Miami team for two years before becoming the OC in Dallas and then taking the HC job after 3+ years as the OC. Was mostly an internal hire to be an extension of Jerry Jones Mike McCarthy was probably the most notable guy they brought in who actually had demand elsewhere, but that was kind of a fluke circumstance. McCarthy came from a Packers org where because of the way the org was structured there was a lot put on McCarthy in Green Bay, so he was one of the few coaches that actually didn't mind having less control. And McCarthy was probably the most successful coach they had since 2007 with three straight 12 win seasons and a playoff win. Then Jerry hired Schottenheimer who was the Dallas OC for several years just going with a yes man within the org. Until Jerry lets go of the reigns and lets a great head coach come in and utilize the resources there they are going to be stuck being a good team that never gets over the hump. 1 Quote
