Think you're ignoring that Houston had Collins against us - Pretty big deal.  That was a reasonably impressive win for the Bills on the road to open the season.  Part of the reasons these teams have bad records is because we beat them.

Stop banging your chest about those wins. So. Collins goes down and a “good team” scores 6 and 17 respectively. Do you remember the way they kept scoring TDS against us and had an easy interception to beat us. Do you know how bad you have to be to lose while winning the TO battle 4 to 1 and having the other team have 10 accepted penalties for 90 yds? That’s the Chargers who lost their first two home games to Arizona and LV. You want be euphoric about those wins, you’re welcome to.

The Texans and Chargers are both 0-3 but let's not act like either of them is the Dolphins or Titans. Both teams were playoff teams last year. Both have a ton of talent. The Chargers have a new offensive system that they are still trying to work through. The Texans have been without Nico Collins the last 2 games. They can both easily and I think will turn it around. Especially the Texans. All the Bills wins were impressive. Yes, they didn't play well against the Chargers but the fact they won while committing 5 turnovers is impressive itself

Part of being a credible fan is identifying your teams weaknesses and strengths. The Chargers have a decent roster but Mike McDaniel is not working, their receivers are terrible and Herbert looks like he’s lost. They will be 0 and 7 before you know it. Our defense showed vast improvement and that was impressive but 9 out of 10 times you turn it over 5 times and have 10 penalties for 90 yds, it’s an L no matter how the defense plays. Houston is not the defensive team from last year. Their secondary has been bad and their defensive line is not getting any pressure. Losing one receiver shouldn’t cause your offense to average 12 points against Cincinnati and Indy. Realistically, they have a QB that they didn’t want to extend because he’s just not any good. I love the idea of being 3 and 0 but beating deeply flawed teams can’t establish confidence that we are a dominant team. Let’s stop reading our press clippings and take a breath. We have NE and the Rams away coming up. We win those and then you’re onto something.

He just hasn't been hit yet this year.

As soon as somebody starts knocking him around, he'll fall apart like a Robert Hall suit.

Does that mean that my retirement plan of selling off a couple vintage lightly used RH suits a year is not going to go well? 😞

Oh well, there's always cat food and cardboard boxes to look forward to...

Not banging my chest at all - You're clearly being overly negative (e.g., You: beating the Chargers is evidence that they must really suck vs. Me: we played poorly and still won which suggests we might be really good if we can minimize mistakes - plus people haven't given the Chargers enough credit for having a very good defense).  Cheer up, my friend!

The Jets look to be an average team. That bodes well for us. It may keep them in QB purgatory.

I know a lot of people may disagree and have done so when conversations come up about that team, but I think they have one of the better rosters from the “bottom teams”. QB is the biggest problem which is obvious. And as long as they remain in purgatory they remain, like you say, average.

If they have a Shough, Goff, Nix or even a Young/Herbert type QB I firmly believe they land in the top half of the league. Certainly the top 8 teams of the AFC.

They also have, in my opinion, a very mediocre-to-poor HC who will not get the most out of that talent and help to keep them in that purgatory state.

Great point. The Glenn hiring hasn’t been inspiring.

Do you think they’re in the mix for Brian Flores next season if they part ways with Glenn? I also wonder if McDermott or Kliff Kingsbury would take the job if offered.

I'm flabbergasted that people continue to think this.

They literally had a fire sale in the middle of last season that turned them into arguably the worst roster in the entire NFL. A couple high draft picks are not going to change that. Especially when one of those high picks is averaging 40yrds rec/game and another has a grand total of 1 catch on the season.

Interesting thought. I have no idea who they’d pursue, although I’d guess they’d want to go the offensive route so maybe Kingsbury?

McDermott will definitely get some attention from a “broken” franchise trying to establish something…I don’t think a team on the cusp will hire him, though. It’s hard to overcome that “you had Josh Allen but couldn’t get to a Super Bowl” stink…

But that’s the point. They purged their “elite” talent but are still somewhat competitive. QB is the long and short of that situation. Look at history and the amount of bang average players who’ve moved on from à top end QB and done nothing. Breece Hall and Wilson are solid players in a bad situation.

You put Josh, Mahomes or Lamar on that team and I can guarantee they have multiple receivers having gaudy success.

Bottom line: my point was” don’t get giddy about our 3 and 0”. You’re saying “we might be really good if we minimize mistakes “ and the Chargers aren’t given enough credit. The Chargers will be 0 and 7 because they have nothing going on offense. I’m not overly negative, just objective. Sometimes when you’re realistic you can identify the strengths and weaknesses of your team.

Totally fair - Maybe I lean slightly too positive and you a bit too negative?  All good.  I think we're both being a lot more objective than many.

When the two best players on your team are a WR and a RB, you are a bad football team.

They are bad on the OL, they are bad in the front 7, they are bad at QB and they are bad in the secondary.

Their second best player is an oft-injured RB who is currently averaging 3.2 yrds/carry, good for 35th in the NFL. And he's already hurt again.

The Jets roster is absolutely near the bottom of the NFL barrel.

Ok, but like I said they have one of the better rosters on the bottom tier teams in the league. From the AFC alone if they had a tier 2 QB I believe they are firmly a wildcard team in the conference. Their defense has some terrific pieces even with the subtraction of Gardner and Q-Williams.

You can turn around an offensive line with reasonable talent with the right coaching and blocking schemes. Denver is a prime example of that. Mid round picks and not gaudy contract FAs. Bills built a line not dissimilar over the years prior to retaining their guys at decent $.

I don’t for a second think they are elite and am not landing them in the circles of Seattle, KC or Rams but if they get à QB it benefits every aspect of their team.

Go back to last season, and whether the warts have appeared and being the beneficiary of a patty cake schedule is irrelevant, there was a few people on here (myself included) who said the Patriots are a decently built team that can come in and beat Buffalo heading into week 5… all I read is the team is below average, not very good, has only a couple decent players, going to fail and stay in Brady-less purgatory. Well after beating the Bills they won their remaining 11 of their remaining games and went to the Super Bowl. You can’t do that with a bottom of the barrel or close to it roster, which many said. Drake Maye, like or dislike him, played exceptionally well for the prior to the playoffs. He now isn’t and you’re seeing the repercussions of pretty much simply poor QB play spiraling à team out of control.

To encompass all of that, this is just my own opinion whether it’s right or wrong, spitballing I feel the Jets are behind the 8-Ball because of the position and would look better than they are if it improved. Even to the point where they are in the top 1/3 or fringe of the conference.

For instance, and a serious question, with the rosters we’ve had over the last 9 seasons do you think our team is anywhere near the top half without Josh? I don’t think so. I believe we would be around a 5 to 7 win team at best, which is exactly where the Jets have been aside from last year when they had injuries to both of those players and shipped two premier defenders for draft picks.

ok, let's rank the 3-0 teams.  i'll exclude the bills

1 kc

2 sf (because i think they will all be totally injured soon enough)

3 Minni

4 raiders

Right now I'd flip SF and KC - but you may well be right about them all being injured soon.

On where the Bills would have been without Josh it depends who you are subbing in, as ever. I think if you have a bad Quarterback 5-7 wins is about the ceiling for any team no matter how talented the roster. If you replace him with a serviceable vet they'd have been an "in the hunt" team most years. If you replace with better than that we'd have been a regular wildcard, maybe win one division or so type team who hopes to win a playoff game. Josh is the reason we are a perennial Superbowl favourite.

I do agree with you on the Jets though. I think their roster is one of the better rosters among the poorer teams. Wilson, Tippman, Fashanu on offense would all start for a ton of contending teams. I'm not the biggest Breece Hall guy in the world, I consider him overrated, but he'd start on some too. I like Cooper and Sadiq but Cooper is already on IR and it's too early to say on Sadiq but by this time next year that could look a very nice offensive core. Defense they have some very good vets who are probably on the downslope - Demario Davis and Minkah Fitzpatrick - and they have sone young pieces in Az Thomas in year 2 and David Bailey who has made a good start as a rook. They probably lack some prime age talent there but if you put a better coach and a better Quarterback into that organisation they'd be a competitive around or just above .500 team pretty quickly I think.

1 game at a time baby... just sit back and enjoy... young defensive backfield + Benford will only get better with time... they have speed... the rest just pray everyone stays healthy... God Speed Josh... Go Bills!

Is QB really a problem for them though. Geno has played pretty well/good for them so far. He isn't the long-term answer at 35. But I could see the Jets resigning him for another year or two. Everybody knows they will draft a QB in the 2027 draft with three first round picks. Either Geno starts while their future franchise QB sits for year or he outplays Geno and starts over him as Geno is then the backup. It's a nice problem to have if they get the right QB in next year's draft.

5-6 yeas ago, probably not.

Right now, absolutely yes.

Regardless of splash WR's or playmaking DBs, football games are won at the LOS on both sides of the ball.

And we are near the top of the pile in both those categories.
