colin Posted September 28 Posted September 28 he has to clean up the fumbles some, it's gotten too frequent. aside from that, he's a top 5 nfl back. im glad he's on the team. 1 Quote
Magox Posted September 28 Posted September 28 Remember all those posts from a good portion of the board that basically said: "If we can get him for under $10 Million a year but not a single dollar over that!" Good fond memories. Quote

DaVinci Posted September 28 Posted September 28 He's a good man. He could have went Diva after leading the league in rushing last year. I hope they take care of him. 2 Quote

Yes, I'm sure Ray Davis could just take his place and lead the league in rushing. Quote

Had Cook waited a year and got comped along with Gibbs, Bijan and Achane especially after winning the rushing title, he would've gotten significantly much more. Quote

eball Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Ok, I totally get the frustration with fumbling…but “hate” Jimbo Cook? Blasphemous. This dude is fantastic; absolutely an elite back and one of Beane’s home runs. 1 Quote

He’ll get paid before next season because he’s vital to our success and it pays to get him signed. If the contracts for Gibbs and Robinson are 20+ Cook deserves it. Never question a great back’s desire to get paid early because a major injury can derail their career and management won’t care.that he’s killing himself to recover. A good GM can structure a contract so that it doesn’t compromise the cap. Quote

I'm not sure what the solution is here. You still want him to get his carries because of how lethal of a runner he is. There was a story back when Tiki Barber kept fumbling for the Giants. Basically Fassel was known for being loose as a coach. The result was 35 fumbles. Once Coughlin (the OG hard ass of a coach) took over in 2004, he made Barber change his ball handling skills to high and tight. He coached the entire defense to in every practice try and punch out the ball while running back to every huddle. He also threatened to bench him for any further fumbles. Rumor has it, he additionally made Barber take the ball home and to work each day, and even sleep with it. Only two fumbles after that change. I don’t know if I agree with benching Cook, but I like the rest. I used a similar tactic with youth football when coaching boys and made them sleep with the ball. One time I even asked this one boy’s principle of he could carry it around. She said no because of the disruption, but she was a fan so she did allow him to keep in his backpack, but suspended if it came out. This young boy turned into a heck of a high school ball player later. Brady needs to do something to get Cook to control this ball better. Dont get me wrong. I love his explosiveness and timing with the hole as he reminds me of vintage Le’Veon Bell with the Steelers before he became gifted ######ed with his contract. He had such patience with letting the hole develop. Cook is gong to have another top flight year. 2 Quote

For sure we want fewer but I think its just a bit of an unlucky streak. The one last week that will just happen a number of times a season. He had like historic low fumbling numbers in 2024 they have spiked up since.... to my eye he isn't doing anything different, there isn't a technical issue with his grip. He has had a couple punched out in the pile. The one in the playoff game Singleton knocked out by going head first helmet onto ball. Its just an occupational hazard for a back. Quote

He fumbled in the Denver playoff game, which was still a turning point of the game for me. But despite his goofy, indifferent appearance, he does care. You see he cheered the defense making a stop. And then he just took over late 4th quarter, pretty much the main force to get the Bills the lead and expand the lead, as well as a minor icing of the game. He's 27. I'm not sure he's going to change. We can't live with him on those mistakes, but we also can't live without him to drive the offense, sort of what we had with Allen before he matured. BTW, James, please have both hands on the ball the last few carries you had - I just don't like to hold on my breath too much in those situations. One of the weakest troll attempts I’ve seen here. Find another hobby. This one ain’t gonna pan out. 1 Quote
Sammy Watkins' Rib Posted October 3 Posted October 3 He's so good that he could average one fumble a game for the entire season and still be worth handing the ball 20+ times a game to. Quote

Kept yelling at the tv for Kincaid to just frigging go down. You should both watch the play again. He didn't go down because nobody was making a serious effort to tackle him. It also wasn't just an extra few yards. The problem wasn't that he didn't go down. The problem was he left the ball exposed because he didn't tuck his elbow like every ball carrier should be trained to do. Quote

I was looking for a video like this for another thread but all I could find is tiktoks. Most of the others call it 5 points of pressure. Belichick calls it 3 points of contact. It's the same technique though. 1 Quote

It’s a real problem—fumbling rates from the late 1970s/early 1980s, which is where he’s currently at, don’t fly in the contemporary NFL. I keep thinking he’ll clean it up, but he doesn’t. That's correctable, no week's better to emphasize it than this week either cause they all need it after today Yes. We can love the player and still not hide our heads in the sand that he simply has to improve in this area... which he can. Some of it is random but ball security is largely a function of coaching. On 9/28/2026 at 7:54 AM, billieve420 said: Cook and Allen both need to work on securing the ball better. They both fumble way too much for me and you have to hope it doesn’t cost us in a critical moment. Hopefully, something that is being coached on during practice regularly in terms of ball security. I'm a huge defender of Josh and routinely become angry when he is criticized or when lesser QBs are compared to him... but absolutely YES, both Cook and Josh have to improve on ball security when running. It's a fact. On 9/28/2026 at 8:32 AM, colin said: he has to clean up the fumbles some, it's gotten too frequent. aside from that, he's a top 5 nfl back. im glad he's on the team. Ditto. Apologies for AIing... Yes, avoiding fumbles in football is considered largely preventable through strict adherence to fundamental ball-security techniques. Core Prevention Techniques: High-and-Tight Method: Players secure the football against their chest, pinning it tightly between the forearm, bicep, and rib cage. Five Points of Contact: This grip relies on pressure points involving the tip of the ball, palm, forearm, bicep, and chest to ensure stability during impact. Two-Handed Protection: Ball carriers cover the exposed point of the ball with their free hand or wrap both hands around it when entering heavy traffic or anticipating a tackle. Why Fumbles Still Occur: Defensive Strips: Defenders are specifically trained to punch, claw, or rip the ball away rather than just wrapping up the runner. Violent Collisions: High-speed hits from multiple angles can jar the ball loose even if a player uses proper form. Execution Errors: Flawed handoffs, miscommunication on option plays, or loose grips while trying to break away for extra yardage create immediate vulnerabilities. A significant number of fumbles happen based on this last point including Kincaid's fumble last week. When runners are in heavy traffic and fighting for a few extra yards, the coached instinct has to kick in that protecting the football is more important than a few more yards and that's when two hands have to wrap the ball. This is the obvious take. ONLY, buffoons would suggest gapping him. The first play unnerved the Bills - all day! Unfortunate. But, Cookie kicked in during the 4th, running the Bills to a W, as my seatmate was shouting from the 3rd Q on. “RUN THE ***** BALL! They can’t stop it!” And the Kincaid, long reception, while still churning and running… I was yelling… “Go Down!” 🙄 1 Quote
