Simon Posted September 13 Posted September 13 That dude out there wearing the 8 looked nothing like the guy we saw all last year. 5 1 3 Quote

Very good indeed first half. Not quite as effective second half but a solid game overall and johnny on the spot when someone needed to grab the ball at the end. Quote

I don't know whether it's the scheme change or him realizing last year didn't cut the mustard, but he didn't play a single game that aggressively last season. 1 Quote

This scheme is closer to what he played in at Baylor. I have been saying all offseason I think he might be a guy who really benefits from it. 1 Quote
Bruffalo Posted September 13 Posted September 13 He got bullied a bit in the run game, but he definitely showed up and made some plays when it mattered. 1 Quote

He was also playing pretty banged up last year. He finally looks healthy. That makes a huge difference. 1 Quote
Bob in STL Posted September 13 Posted September 13 Bernard made a few plays and looked better. His run support need to be better but today was encouraging for him. Quote
Orlando Buffalo Posted September 13 Posted September 13 Bernard is fast and smart, but too small to be a primary middle LB in a 3-4. I will be interested to see how they use him this year, especially with Orr waiting in the wings. 3 1 Quote
Einstein Posted September 13 Posted September 13 12 tackles today. Not to mention the fumble recovery. 1 Quote
WeckMonster Posted September 13 Posted September 13 I thought he looked completely LOST in coverage. At least 2 big crossing gains where Bernard vacated, leaving the field wide open, and he was either didling near the line or ran way to the boundary when we already had multiple guys covering the space. His strength was always coverage so hopefully it’s just confusion with the new scheme and gets cleaned up in film study tomorrow. Quote
Big Turk Posted September 13 Posted September 13 Good player when he can stay healthy...problem is he can't stay healthy. Quote

We interviewed some defensive player that said they felt way more comfortable in the new scheme and I really wanna say it was Bernard but I can’t remember 100% Quote

Bill51390 Posted September 13 Posted September 13 I didn’t think Bernard looked good today. Better than last year, maybe. I don’t think he’s a good fit for this scheme. 1 1 Quote

Agreed... I think he did well being around the ball, but he was manhandled quite a bit during running plays. Great instincts but he is just not big enough. 1 Quote
Mod_Squad_Reject Posted September 13 Posted September 13 (edited) He played well. Unfortunately he scared me again when he was down grabbing his lower leg, I still fear he’s small and made of glass. I must admit I held my breath. Edited September 13 by Mod_Squad_Reject Quote
Matt_In_NH Posted September 13 Posted September 13 I really think the question is just if he can stay healthy. Quote
Victory Formation Posted September 13 Posted September 13 I'm not high on Bernard, but I'm not low on him either. Extremely intelligent player with good instincts but is limited physically. He's an okay player. 1 1 Quote
EmotionallyUnstable Posted September 13 Posted September 13 @Simon he never went anywhere. Ppl hated on him for poor play that was really due to bad support in the system I posted about numerous times in his defense. He was great today. Quote

Almost like he got the most undeserved flak as this board has ever given last year. There were too many hurt so he gritted his teeth and played when he had no business being out there! Crappy because he'd have a better rep around here had he sat out, then he does when he could barely jog 2 Quote
