Fantastic. I watched the game live at the time but never read these. I also had never heard Van's full radio commentary until a few years ago when I saw someone had posted it on YouTube. I ended up listening to the whole thing.

Brought back so many great memories. I was a young teen and went crazy when the FG went through. I really thought we were destined to win it all that year, especially when Jim Kelly got knocked out of the super bowl and Reich came in.

We were getting razzed all game by the Oilers fan sitting behind us.  He wasn't obnoxious, just merciless as they poured it on in the first half

"Just like last week, boys"

After the Christie game winning FG went through, the classy 18 year olds that we were just turned around in unison and gave the poor guy the double barrel middle finger salute.  Just like last week, indeed

I was in my early 20’s.  I went with a fellow Buffalo Ian transplant to Tampa to the Fraternity House, a sports bar with the prettiest waitresses.  We could’ve watched at home, but wanted wings, etc of course.

We were so dejected in the first half.  When it started turning around, we were high diving like every Bills fan everywhere.  By the end of the game, we were ready to drive non stop to Pittsburgh and take our chances on getting tix outside the stadium at gametime.  We were working class at best early 20’s guys.

The beer wore off by Monday and we decided to watch together at another joint.  That was a great moment for us.  I’m sure all of your stories are just as interesting.

I was there, and I almost left at the half.

Truthfully, the only reason that I didn't leave, was because it was the last home game for the season.

I never would've lived it down, had I left.

I was 9 at the time. I had a bunch of friends over to play football since we couldn't watch the game. At halftime my dad put on the Walkman and we all re-enacted all of the second half plays in the back yard live as it played out. Complete insanity. I haven't lived in Buffalo for 20+ years but that is my greatest memory of the city!

What a screen name you have.  Has that always been the one you use?

I was at Air Force basic training during this game, so I didn’t get to see it. Someone in our sister flight had access to a radio — maybe it was a TV, I don’t remember. All I knew was that we were getting updates.

Some of the guys knew I was a Buffalo Bills fan, and every time the Oilers scored they gave me ***** about it. Then the updates changed: the Bills were coming back. I honestly didn’t believe them, thought it was a rib. It wasn’t until I graduated a week or two later that I found out the truth. I thought they were lying to me the entire time.

True story, I was married for 1 year. Game was on the radio, it's a Big Game as I always told my wife.

She says, why we go to Canada (Hamilton) to visit my parents, it's a blowout.

It was 28-3 at the time. I said no.... and miss the comeback?

I was completely full of ******. I just didn't want to go to my in- laws.

It's been my hall pass ever since to not miss any Bills games no matter the score 😀

Our oldest child was about 4-5 years old and had a play date with his best friend, Ben. I explained I was in as a couples thing as long as the Bills will be on the TV. I was very clear.

When the Bills stuff got ugly he wanted to change to the Kentucky basketball game. I reminded him of the rules. He went to his bedroom to watch his UK hoops. He sulked, but was a good sport. When I started screaming later he came back and couldn’t believe what he had missed!

That last story is the best! Bills fans complaining, then celebrating, then getting busy with strippers.

Love it!

Still married or as I like to say.

I've been married long enough that I don't look both ways when crossing the street 😏

I was there and absolutely wanted to leave at halftime.  We had 9 guys sitting in the endzone opposite the tunnel.  I looked at my buddy sitting next to me and said let's go to the parking lot and drown our sorrows.  He convinced me to stay since the Bills were getting the ball to start the second half.  I relented and sat through halftime only to see Frank Reich throw a pick 6 on the first possession.  I looked at my buddy and said ... now can we go?  He looked at me and said let's wait the Bills are getting the ball back.  I agreed to sit tight.  I have thanked my friend literally dozens of times over the years for not letting me leave.

We were also at the game but we're in the upper deck and saw all the people flooding out and we agreed we would rather watch bad football then sit in the traffic. I don't know if we would have stayed if we did not see the numbers leaving but I am glad we stayed also.
