I am optimistic but the unknown is what injuries will occur - to whom - when and how severe are they. This is no different this year as compared to any other. However, A deep playoff run depends in part on having the right people healthy during the postseason.

I don't think we're going to have future years with more pieces in place on offense than we do right now.

 

My hopes for a SB will live and die with the defense this year.

I have been a fan since opening day 1960 (although I was too young to remember much of the first couple years).  I have gone into each season excited, not optimistic but excited.  Wasn’t optimistic in the late 60’s/early 70’s and the mid 70’s and mid 80’s.  But still excited!

 

This year I am both.  I think Josh is in his prime and I think being a new dad will inspire him even more.  We have a solid O line, great run game, and a solid group of receivers including not just the WRs but the TEs and RBs.  I don’t see many teams slowing us down.

 

My excitement stems from Leonard.  I will always be grateful for McD and all he did but it was clear his D style let us down in the playoffs.  Leonard wants to attack and I see us making more big plays in terms of sacks and tackles for loss.  But I think we’ll also give up some big plays when being aggressive and putting CBs on an island more.  The net however should be an improved D that is much better on 3rd down.

 

Special teams should be interesting.  I think Bass will be OK but they won’t give him much space if he misses one or two, and will pull the plug quick.  I like the rookie punter, and having Davis return kicks and (maybe) the guy they picked up from the Cards for punt return make those solid.

 

Biggest question is how Brady transitions to HC but with Carmichael and Fox next to him on the sidelines I think he’ll do fine.

 

I see 12-5 and a long playoff run with Josh in his first SB.

For me, it comes down to the DLINE.  I think we all know the offense is gonna offense.  Can the DLINE get the QB down?  Can they slow down the RBs from opposing teams?  I find it amazing how none of us are talking about the addition of the 5th pick in the Josh Allen draft.  Micheal H showed promise last year.  A dominant DLINE cures a lot of sins behind them.

Appreciate your optimism, @eball. Although I am a catastrophiser and always expect Lucy to pull the football away at the end of the season, I always go into the season with great optimism as well and this year I am excited to see what this team looks like. I am unreasonably excited to see Hoecht in this defense.

 

That said, like @BuffaloBill, I believe it always seems to come down to injuries, and whether we can stay reasonably healthy and/or overcome the inevitable.

I am expecting opposing quarterbacks to be hit on a regular basis and being made uncomfortable in the pocket. This will go a long way toward the success of the defense along with not giving up the edge so easily in the running game.

I'm a long time fan &I will always watch. However after sooo many years of not winning the big one. 

 

I'm in the I'll believe it when I see it boat. I don't get too high when they win or too low when they lose.

 

The playoffs is when my heart rate goes up a bit, but not like it used to. 

 

I do like the coaching change & and an aggressive defense format. McD' s style just took us so far. Not good enough.

I don’t know why, but I read this and immediately thought of when the Bills added James Lofton.  Wow, what a great move.

The real question for this season is how will the defense do in the playoffs.

 

The Bills offense was never the issue.  On the plus side the Bills have more weapons than they have had in recent campaigns.  Our TE and RB rooms maybe the deepest in the NFL.  While I’m not a huge fan of Moore, I do think his presence will help keep teams from crowding the line to stop Cook, Shakir and Josh’s running.  This team should be more explosive and hopefully more consistent. 
 

The issue remains is the defense good enough.  If the new look defense can get QB pressure, create more turnovers, slow the run and get off the field on 3rd and long then the Bills could be better than ever.   

 

What gives me optimism is how prepared the team looked in the preseason.  They looked ready to go from the opening snap.  Now they have to look like that in the regular season and in the playoffs.  
 

I just want Football to start.  My wife made me watch Tennis.

I'm excited for the simple reason that I don't feel like I "know" we are going to lose in the end. 

I rooted I cheered I hoped, but I felt, deep down, that something bad was going to happen. And I'm not the only one I'm sure.

 

So now I don't know. I have no idea what's going to happen! And I like it!

 

I can add that, in the end,  I don't think McD's buttoned down approach worked for us. 

I'm ready to give something else a try.

I think it was before the sod replacement but after the obstructed seating.

You're right. There's an element of luck in every Super Bowl winner's season.
