This story continues to get far weirder than just a some 35 year old guy who snuck into 49ers camp for another shot at the big leagues. 

 

Daejon Love is not a San Francisco 49ers player — in fact, he has no NFL career or stats. Federal prosecutors say he spent years posing as a 49ers wide receiver and wealthy investor to defraud at least 26 women out of about $1.3 million.

I havent been able to get enough of this story over the last few days.   He's a dirtbag but also an absolute legend.   This story should be presented to any woman who go after men for having no depth.

Running routes on the beach with a helmet, was my favorite part.  I hate scammers, and feel bad for anyone that gets scammed.

However, if these women were all gold diggers, and got burned.....I'm having a hard time feeling bad for them.

Confidence scams are almost universally sad, and I feel bad for his victims, even if this one is particularly ridiculous. 

They're so prevalent today due to the rise of the internet and a lack of human connection. You can blame the loss of third spaces, mental illness, poor critical thinking, etc... They're all relevant in the conversation. 

 

It's a multi-billion dollar industry. Please make sure you're checking in on those who may be vulnerable to these kinds of scams.

A lot of lonely women really don't want to know the truth.

My wife has a friend who is convinced she has a romantic attachment with a semi-famous musician. His phone camera is always broken despite the fact that he is part of a successful touring act.

The act went on tour in the US. She went to see them in Phoenix. She bought the stupid VIP experience where you meet and greet. She gave him a gift while he signed autographs. "He" had told her online that for security reasons he couldn't recognize her/see her while on tour, so she acted like every other fan in line.

After she saw her online "boyfriend"  - the real guy, live, before the concert - she asked "him" online if he liked the gift. He had no idea what she was talking about.

 

So she moved on, right?

No. She still corresponds with him online. And my wife suspects she sends him money.

My ex bragged she was dating a cowboys player after I left her. Ended up just being a fat guy with a cowboys tattoo. Doesn’t stop her from telling anyone that’ll listen that she dates NFL players. 

 

I work part time for a couple sports teams and the women at public events are crazy. If they think you’re anything to do with a sports team they’re all over you. We have to have talks with new employees

A few years back we had a new associate on the team.  She was probably 23 or 24 at the time and was always telling us her stories of which NFL players were in her DMs and how she used to date Ha Ha Clinton Dix.  She was a bottle girl at a club in Minneapolis so she told us and that lined up with the time he was in Green Bay so it was plausible.  Then she was with Briean Boddy-Calhoun a journeyman DB with the Browns and then a retired Jacoby Jones was supposedly taking her out.  She knew all the NFL players and was getting into the VIP parties when the super bowl was in Houston.

 

Then one day she abruptly quits her job.  Turns out she was up to her eyeballs in credit card debt and her dad forced her to move back home.  She was paying her own airfare to follow these dudes around the country.  I highly doubt any of these guys were aware that they were in a relationship with her.
