we will see if they learned their lesson from last year. Quick passing, solid running game, play good field position, turnover battle is how you win a game like this. No need to try to score 30 points out there.

With two of Houston’s other receivers out, that should allow more consistently heavy coverage on Houston’s #1 wide receiver, Nico Collins.  Collins is always a concern.

In related news (which only I care about) I had a social obligation which coincided with the game. The first game of the season!! I was so unhappy. 

But just last week, that stupid obligation got re-scheduled and I can watch the game in it's entirety. 

That only means one thing - the stars are aligning for a Bills win.

pretty much this is every game, but really important here... Offense will struggle to score lots and lots of points, we cannot let them gash us on the ground like last year... Stroud if pressured can be a weakness and turn the ball over... we must pressure him relentlessly. 4 yards on 1st down on the ground is gonna be bad. 

 

we had 143 yds against them last year... josh threw 2 picks and was sacked 8 times...   Buffalo offense is much better than last year and they have Moore...  they score 24 minimum. I. think the defense is playing much better I dont see how the bills loose this game unless they get sloppy with the ball again.

What I see is a Buffalo O-line that could perhaps be weaker than last year's, what with the O-line coach retired and replaced, along with some players on that line replaced. 

 

EIGHT SACKS on our beloved QB, along with 2 interceptions. It could go worse, or it could go better, as we just don't know. Will the run game be strong enough to take heat off Allen? Will Joe Brady come up with a game plan to frustrate that Texans defense? Misdirection-outside runs-quick passes to the TEs? 

 

I read a lot of optimism on this board, and I simply can't agree with it, as I don't know if this new team/HC is better than the old one. This game has huge implications for the future of the team, and we all want the win....

 

Then there is the defense. We just don't know if this iteration will be better or worse. More aggressive and more open to big plays...We will soon see.

Suggest anyone watch the youtube 15 minute replay of the game last year. It was a very winnable game. My notes:

Lots of the sacks were coverage sacks, with Allen holding on the the ball too much and trying to make a play when nothing is there. He even said himself he needs to do a better job of just throwing it away.

One INT was a throw into coverage, the second was desperation throw on 4th down at the end of the game.

Cooke ran the ball very well.

No pressure from the Bills pass rush. Probably the turning point of the game was right after a Davis KR for a TD, the Bills took the lead and went into a prevent defense with about 1:30 to the half.

Houston went right down the field and scored a TD to take the lead again. Seemed to deflate the team.

If they can cover these mistakes and generate some pressure, they should be fine.

Idk if this is true or not, but I read somewhere Stroud wants a $70 mil a year contract. Not sure if he's worth half that tbh. As for this game, I hope we develop some form of a RB screen instead of WR bubble screens

Nico Collins and Dalton Schultz aren't household names but still too very good receiving options. I think is we have to contain their running game and keep Stroud pressured and we should win as long as we avoid turnovers.

Very intrigued to see how Brady plays this knowing firsthand how last year went. 

 

If I remember correctly there was lots of talk right after the game about why the Bills didn't chip with their TE's to help the tackles.  The following week in Pittsburgh we saw that incorporated, along with the heavy reliance on the run game, to great success.  Lesson learned.

I'll say that I have considerable more confidence to do that this year with Moore and Bell joining Shakir

 

I agree that this is an excellent early test. The Bills struggled against the Texans under McDermott and a Week 1 contest with minimal film is one I'm now looking forward to more than when the schedule first dropped

The Texans shut down the WR screens as well as anybody in football. The path is a lot of heavy sets. Force them into 3 LB’s. No 3rd and long, we need to run the football. Get Allen out of the pocket. The key this year is Moore. Even when we did the above last year they just suffocated us with no threat to beat them downfield. It’s the best defense in football by a large margin and was historically strong last year. Probably the best defense of the 20’s last season. Will be a hell of a game. Crazy physical.
