Bills replacing grass at Highmark starting Monday

It's Not unusual this is what happens... Literally the two Northeast stadiums with grass field that have been built in the last 25 years went through that 

 

Literally people will complain about everything because at first it was we need to get rid of turf.. now they're going to complain that the grass is terrible forever 

 

That's how it goes.. the bills are literally using the best company in the world that makes grass football field

 

Literally the number one company in the world.. it wasn't botched this is what happens in environments like Buffalo 

 

It will improve as time goes on because it will be dialed in.. it was always going to take extreme maintenance and still will after this 

 

I could have told you 3 months ago that it was going to get re sodded before the season

All the informed discussion was that grass playing fields like the one in Highmark benefit from maturation... the idea that as the months go by the roots become more established and the field becomes more durable.

 

If this happened after 10 months since being planted, it's hard to imagine that things will improve.

 

As a homesteader and one who dabbles in soil science I wonder if they could amend the sand with a bit more silt and clay (these are the 3 particles that make up soil). Sand (the largest) is obviously used for drainage but doesn't hold roots well. What soil scientists call "Loam" is a mix 40% sand, 40% silt, 20% clay which holds roots the best. It seems like playing around with the proportions would yield a better substrate. Maybe something like a "sandy loam" which you find in many parts of Eden, NY.

Those weren't called failed fields... It was called this happens 

 

People would think that this field would last for years but the history says the other two Fields built in the Northeast had it re sodded before preseason too

 

It's going to get re done fairly often...

If somebody asked me 3 months ago how long the first grass would last I would have said probably re sodded after the preseason 

 

Since that's the history of the other two grass fields built in the last 25 years in the NFL 

 

Nobody was talking about that nobody was asking the longevity we were all pumped for grass.. nobody was asking how long it would last 

 

Somebody asked... I would have given my opinion that it would have been after preseason

 

Because the last two grass fields in the north did the same thing

 

The bills have the number one company in the world for grass football fields doing this it was not botched lol

 

They're not cutting corners they're using the best company in the world
