Don’t know if folks like this idea or not, but thought I’d start a thread for updates as the roster is trimmed by tomorrow so we have one “go-to” location.

Adding the reminder and caveat that regardless of what the 53-man looks like on Sunday afternoon, it will likely change by a player or two by the time we reach W1 as a result of trades, FA pickups, etc.

 

I also believe that any player placed on IR prior to getting the roster down to 53 is ineligible to return for the year. I believe the Bills will do this with OT Bowry.

True for anyone we place there today. 

 

But tomorrow we can put 2 players on and they ARE eligible to come back into the 53 (meaning we can "retain" 55 players by putting two lightly injured players on there and keeping hold of someone we think might get claimed on waivers instead)

 

But would count as 2 of the maximum 8 you can bring off IR in a season 

 

So basically guys you are almost sure you will bring into the 53 at some point.

Correct. But you have to designate them to return the way you used to have to with in season IR. So if they IR'd 3 tomorrow they'd have to designate the two to return. The third would be done for the year.

I feel like and maybe I’m misremembering but the Bills cut a slew of guys today so they could have the rest of the week to have options but it’s a new staff so maybe they’ll be slower this time around

Cut down day is tomorrow. They’ll be releasing everyone that’ll be released over the next 33 hours.

I would expect to hear about a few of them today that are more of the obvious ones, but the tighter calls may not come until tomorrow.  But yeah, I would expect a few at some point today.  It's the way it usually goes, but with a new staff this year, maybe they change things a bit.

For sure.  Beane is trying to trade the tougher cuts as we speak and should continue until the deadline

The Athletic says last year, 29 players claimed on waivers on cut-down day. Titans claimed 4. The year before, 27 claimed. So odds are remote that all the Bills bubble players will be poached.

Has anyone with more knowledge than I - which is everyone on here, really - got an eye on potential cuts by other teams who the Bills could/should be interested in?

Maybe a kicker to the PS. Means they would have to clear waivers. And be accepting a PS spot on the Bills. The Colts have 2 decent ones in a competition…

If they had question marks over Bass they would have set up a competition through training camp/pre season.

Agree. Schrader is the one I like better of him and Grupe. Problem is, they believe in Bass to the extent that they didn't even have competition for him. I don't see them putting a kicker on the PS and having that be in the back of Bass's mind come game day. They are coddling him a bit.
