Again, just an opinion on Kubiak.. I'm not the Bills GM or owner. But just my personal view, if the guy is Gary Kubiak's son and just called the offense he did in Seattle (his offensive game planning at times was brilliant), I'd bring in an outside guy like him. But, not Beane's style.

 

And no, Kubiak would not have brought in Leonard obviously... That's just me playing Madden. Still, those two get along.. you might have something. I like Klint and believe he has the tools. However, we'll see how he does under an owner like Mark Davis.

I'm still skeptical of the Brady hiring, because I don't know that he was the right hire for the team and franchise. Time will tell.  Me personally? It doesn't really matter, my opinion.. but I'd have given Klint Kubiak a long look. Pair him with a DC like Leonard, you might have something. But I'm not making the decisions. 

 

It appears that Klint Kubiak was never in play for the Bills.

 

The Bills weren't gonna wait 2 more weeks for a 50/50 chance at winning him over the Raiders... and if he chose the Raiders over us what then?

And again, I never expected them to.. That's just who I would have taken a long look at and possibly waited. That was just a separate comment as to who I liked. But I'm not the GM. I just believe he has potential to be a very good head coach.. Beane was never going to do that. Not his style.

 

Like I said, I'm still skeptical of the Brady hire. But he does seem to have a good staff put together and an even better roster. And he is an excellent offensive play caller, from his experience so far. I just don't believe Beane had this planned all along...

Oh im sure he’s a smart guy and he’ll get there one day but it just didn’t seem like the time anyone would make him a HC.  the talking heads were makin it sound like he was imminently getting a HC job it was pretty bizarre

The Bills, Ravens and Raiders interviewed him. The Raiders had him in for a 2nd interview and by most accounts would have been the guy if not for Kubiak. It’s not like he was a Make-A-Wish kid trying to get a HC job. NFL teams viewed him as a serious candidate including the 2 best jobs on the market.

I doubt the raiders would’ve gone Webb personally once they decided to wait it out to look into kubiak but we’ll never know of course. 
 

im not doubting the guys intelligence it’s an experience level thing.  If you could’ve paired him with the best veteran coordinators available I think the raiders could’ve given him a shot but those kind of guys get scooped up when you’re waiting long into the hiring cycle.  Couple good years as the broncos OC and I’m sure he gets hired somewhere 

 

hiring a 30 year old two year qb coach/pass game coordinator as HC of a struggling franchise would be pretty unprecedented.  Even McVay had 7 years of various offensive roles and 3 years of OC before getting a HC job 

 

I think it was for the best for him he didn’t get a hc job this cycle.

So how unplanned do you think this was?

     Do you think it was a spur of the moment firing?

     Do you think Pegula never spoke with Beane on possible replacements prior to letting McD go?

     If you were the owner would you have had a plan?  

 

It's not really a conspiracy theory to think they had at least an outline of a plan in place prior to firing McD.  IMO, it is the more logical option.

Maybe so. It would have been a risky hire but teams want what’s next. Webb might be the next brilliant offensive mind. That’s an infinitely better hire than Mike McCarthy or Anthony Lynn for example. I don’t need experience. I need someone that believes you operate from Josh out and attacks. Whoever fit that was acceptable, and an upgrade to me.
 

Everybody that’s a HC was a 1st time HC at some point. Guys like Udinski and Webb are high ceiling hires with low floors. When you have Josh Allen that floor is pretty high regardless of who the coach is. I’m fine with the Brady hire but would have been fine with most other candidates.

I think Kubiak did have Leonhard on his list from what I understand. But because he couldn't move until after the Superbowl other teams got into him earlier and pressed hard for him - especially the Chargers and the Bills. He had an interview lined up with the Ravens too but the Bills made sure he never made it out of the building. 

 

Kubiak was my first choice and I think he was the best HC prospect on the market. However, the rules meant it was simply never an option for the Bills because we didn't have a vacancy until after the wildcard window for first interviews had closed. By league rule the earliest the Bills would have been permitted to conduct any sort of interview with him would have been the day after the Superbowl. He was never going to wait for that when teams who HAD interviewed him in the wildcard window were offering him a certain job and big contract. So once you put a line through his name as the Bills had to Brady was as good as anyone in contention to me.
