If you weren't on board with the Brady promotion, do you feel better today?

I was really hoping we got Grant Udinski.  I fell for the "prodigy" label he was giving.  I was impressed with the way he conducts himself in the public, he does seem very knowledgeable.  

 

The Brady hire was deflating.  

 

I know the regular season hasn't started yet but I'm feeling more comfortable with him.

Sure. Still, it is preseason!

 

I don't think it is wise to get too excited or too judgmental based off of preseason and Brady and his team not being yet in difficult coaching situations.

 

Ask this question again around week 8-9, or after the Bills win 3 in a row or lose a game they shouldn't.

 

Ask this question when it is a critical game management decision with 1 minute left against a top 4 AFC playoff caliber team.

 

Ask this question in the 2nd round in the playoffs if either the offense or defensive is struggling a bit.

 

I am cautiously optimistic.

So far I haven’t had any complaints. Very much looking forward to the season. 
 

But I wasn’t so much disappointed in Brady as  I was more over Bean staying.

I’ll be eager to watch udinski some day 

 

I think Brady is a quality nfl hire but will admit there’s going to be a part that nags at me about how often we have found our answer in house

 

But I like Brady the coach and how he’s run things this far. He’s well qualified even if an odd dynamic

The bar is insane. We fired a coach who had one of the best starts to a coaching career in nfl history. We’re basically asking a 1st year coach to make a Super Bowl or bust. I always defend him as an OC and think the offense will be more open. Didn’t love him as the head coach but I just hope he gets some grace as he learns on the job,

I share somewhat the same view. For me, it was deflating and underwhelming. Look, I get it. To other fanbases, Joe Brady is a young offensive mastermind. He's Udinski, with experience of calling his own plays. But, we are overly critical of our own too much. Had we hired a genius from another team the excitement would have died down and now after two preseason games threads would be "I'm worried about the offense". In other words, all play callers have flaws. We just already know Brady's. 

 

I also think a lot of people have seen the "promote from within" a bit much over the last few coordinator hires. We saw Dorsey, Babich and even Brady promoted and it hasn't work well for the most part. A fresh start would have been welcome. 

 

But, I'm already on record saying I think Joe can finish in the CoY running if he does how I think he will.

As long as I don’t see a soft zone defense when we have any lead, I’ll be happier than I was last year. 
 

I’d say the same about screen passes but I fear we’re in for far more of those with Brady at the helm. 
 

And he can’t be worse with the red challenge flag.

Which aligned with drafting arguably a top 5 QB in the history of the sport. 
 

Josh saved McClappy’s job several years in a row.

I wasn’t thrilled at first reaction, but thinking more about it I accept it. Brady wasn’t the problem and I’m not ready for a complete overhaul after all the regular season success. It’s a smooth transition for an offense that’s finally balanced. Everyone complained about Allen being the whole show. Can’t really say that now with a top running attack. 
 

Blame the defense on Beane or McDermott, I guess we’ll find out who the real problem was? But the overhaul that WAS needed was the defensive system. I feel like the Bills had enough talent on that side to be a top half unit. The players weren’t utilized correctly. It was a defense designed to beat up on weak offenses. We’ve seen other teams handle the Chiefs handily in the postseason. Yet, it seems like we have to score every possession just to keep up. The Bengals also smoked us with nothing but backup lineman.

I was surprised that they went with Brady, but that doesn’t mean that he was the wrong hire. I will wait until I see how he does his job and how the team does under him before I form my opinion. Let’s see how it goes and how he handles adversity when that arises.

I guarantee you if Brady had been hired by any other team all we’d be hearing about this preseason is his awesome energy, preparedness, connection with the players, and commitment to finding every advantage.

 

But…we’re Buffalo fans so we assume the worst (easy hire, boring, too many WR bubble screens, blah, blah, blah).

 

I’ll just sit back and enjoy the ride.

The only sentiment about hiring Brady which I didn’t like was that it was essentially a carry-over from McDermott but then in retrospect, the offense has and never was the root of many failings over the last year so it somewhat made sense. 
 

You want continuity and familiarity for Josh and the offense. They theoretically have that with Brady. Going forward one can only hope the defensive changes work out.

I've explained it this way: I'd be more sure on the pick if Brady was on a different team last season. 

He fits all the criteria in what I think the Bills need: Youthful coach with an offensive mind and clear success at the NFL level with good talent. 

 

It's the familiarity that has always concerned me, which isn't fair to Brady.

 

Regardless, I'm happy we moved on from McDermott, finally. I've been saying since 13 seconds that I'd be on board with moving on, and I think it is pretty clear he didn't have the coaching ability to get us to the promised land. 

 

I'm as excited for a season as I've ever been.

Superbowl or bust from here on out, those are some pretty lofty expectations for a first time HC. The regular season means nothing to me other than from a fantasy football perspective, that's just my opinion.

I didnt like the hire when it happened.  I was hoping Kubiak would interview here but it seems like it was Raiders all the way for him.   I havent seen much from Brady during the offseason that screams to me that he has a very detailed and organized plan on how to take the team from where it was with McDermott and get it over the hump.       I dont think the "we have Josh Allen" routine he plays is good for anyone, especially Josh.    I would have liked to see them bring in someone who would challenge Josh to get better even if he is already great.    Nothing about Brady jumps out to me as a leader of men that will be willing to make hard calls over pacifying players he is friendly with. 

 

The one hope I hold to is he did a good job with his coaching staff.
