Someone tell me the last time we had a rookie WR who caught 7 passes in a game.  It's exciting.  I'm not penciling the guy in as my week one fantasy football starter but there's hope.

I mean yeah I like the potential but guys are getting really pumped up for a guy who had 7 yards of catch on a bunch of guys who are not going to be playing in the league

Like anything under 10 yards per catch is below average for a wide receiver in the NFL

He looked solid but he's behind Shakir on the depth chart and that's going to limit his opportunities

He is basically shakir's back up and he has not shown he can win at the x or the z in the NFL against starters that's going to limit his touches

Realistic expectations is something everybody should have because he's a rookie behind Shakir.. I don't think he's close to winning the z job so he's going to have a limited touches until he progresses and a year getting stronger is going to help

If we got 25 catches out of him this year that would be very good

There should be Realistic expectations for a fourth round pick

If he is it’s a criminal offense

he should be WR3 now

Who's playing your x and your z and your slot?

Shakir can't win consistently out wide at The z versus outside corners in the NFL either... Moore at X , shakir at Z and bell In slot doesn't sound that great to me

In fact that sounds like an offense that will struggle to get 20 yards downfield at most of the wide receiver position

Our most consistent wide receiver who's been on our roster is basically a pure slot guy.. Shakirs numbers out wide the last 3 years are pedestrian.. he doesn't win downfield consistently at the x or z...

Bell doesn't have the strength right now to win outside consistently in the NFL... The bills passing game will have problems if the rookie becomes our number three wide receiver option

Your 7 yards per catch couldn't be more meaningless.

Beuchele missed him for a sure 25 yard gain. Two of his receptions were wide receiver screens... the last one the defense sniffed out and was doomed to be a 3 yard loss.

Three of his receptions were for 1st downs.

That's true but that's the story of the NFL my friend

Every single wide receivers statistics are impacted by missed balls and wide receiver screens and such.. that's actually also the truth

Shakir didn't do a lot of down the field route running last year but still averaged 10 yards a catch catching a bunch of screens.. and underneath routes

Against starters... Even if you add that 25-yard catch and he goes 8 for 75 that still is below average yards per catch for an NFL wide receiver .. I agree it's not the most important number in the preseason but every single wide receiver is dealing with those same factors

Again I think he has talent but I'm just being realistic with our fourth round pick who's going to be worked in

I'm just being objective we got people here thinking he should be our number two or number three wide receiver and that is premature.. he looked solid in his preseason chances that he got the other night ..

But I remember hodgins catching seven passes in the preseason and it means nothing realistically... I just have realistic expectations for the kid because there's going to be people complaining when he's not balling out because they thought he's going to be a focal point

I get it he did look good but it was against guys who he will not see in regular season action... And the game plan was probably to throw to him to see where he's at because he missed so much time

You're right the 7 yards per catch is slightly meaningless but I also didn't see top three NFL wide receiver on a team from him yet.. keyword is yet because I think he has that potential to grow

But he is built for the slot which we have an established slot wide receiver so that's going to take away his amount of touches this season

Lee Evan’s had 8 in a gsme as a rookie! Almost makes me sad that he only played until 30. He would have been perfect with Josh.

and its the preseason and it’s so completely meaningless but it’s a good start.

I'd say he either has to make plays in limited opportunities (and block), or there will be an injury or two that would get him on the field for more snaps.

Primary slot depth, but even that like... you will have packages that move players like moore and coleman into the slot, and bring palmer in for shakir.

Skyler Bell was 65% outside at UConn.

Should be:

DJ

Shakir

Bell

Coleman

Palmer

Dortch (Returner)

with Coleman or Palmer inactive depending on how they look early in the season

Bell looks the part with his footwork, routes, quickness and talent level right now IMO

he should clearly be WR3 as the ceiling he provides immediately is on another tier above Palmer and Coleman

I hope Allen goes to bat for this kid.

Palmer and Coleman are a virtual non-factor for a defensive gameplan. Very uninsping options

@ UConn…. Playing against…..

He needs to improve is downfield tracking if he’s going to be effective on the outside. As of now, it’s not good enough imo

He will likely be inactive if he cant nail down the punt return job.  Expect Dortch or Sherfield called up in September.  Both offer special teams ability.

I agree. He just ran his routes and he was open. I didn't think he was tested by any quality defensive play. And his touchdown run was fun, but again he wasn't challenged. It was more like a stroll down the sideline.

I hope he turns out to be a star, but I'm not expecting much from him this year. He'll fill in when he needed, and he'll catch a few balls, but I think even 25 catches from him is a lot to expect. Don't count on more than a couple yards from him.
