Chandler#81 Posted August 21 Posted August 21 I think so. he hasn’t been effective the last 2 seasons. Call Prater now! 8 2 2 1 8 2 3 Quote
davefan66 Posted August 21 Posted August 21 (edited) Shouldn’t miss a 35 yarder, but it happens. Not ideal why there is no kicker competition. Find it weird that Bass is coming back off injury and is the only kicker on the roster currently. Makes me wonder if they have a solid backup plan if he flames out (Prater), or will they try and grab whoever is available. Having a go to kicker is important in this league. Can’t rely on “next man up” as pickings are slim outside the 32 starters. Edited August 21 by davefan66 2 1 Quote
Negan Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Beane really is a lousy GM. Bass stinks and will continue to miss kicks. Probably will be cut by week 4. It's inevitable truly. 2 6 3 2 5 2 4 Quote
Winnebago Man Posted August 21 Posted August 21 While I understand that the front office wanted to build Bass up by throwing their wholehearted support behind him, it just isn't working out.... Competition or a suitable replacement needs to be brought in ASAP. I watched highlights from the Texans game against the Raiders and Fairbairn made several long field goals and made them look routine. I have ZERO confidence that Bass could perform similarly. 9 4 Quote
machine gun kelly Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Chandman, you’re right. I’m not one to play the chicken little card very often, but he’s had three years at least, out for one, and still not consistent inside the 50 yard line. It’s time to bring in competition and let him win the battle. I’m not giving up on him, but am not confident in his abilities anymore. A long time ago, I used to work with a guy who was a former punter for FSU. I asked him if he tried out for the pros as he was good. He replied once he had a bad hamstring injury, his leg was gone. As of right now, we have 8 picks in the 2027 draft. One for each round like all31 other teams and a second 7th rd for a trade with the Raiders. One of these two 7th rd picks should be on a kicker. If Bass pulls it together, fine, but I’m not banking on it. Whether it’s Prater or someone else. 1 1 Quote

Even the elite kickers not perfect. bass has earned zero benefit of the doubt from fans but im not sure its productive to hang him if he misses any kick either. we are in a truly strange spot with the position 3 1 Quote
Gregg Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Bring back Prater. Right now, is the time to do it. Imagine week 1. Bills are trailing the Texans 23-21. Allen leads a late drive to set up an easy FG for the win. Bass misses. This board will go full blown nuclear on Beane and rightfully so. 1 2 5 3 Quote
Billsflyer12 Posted August 21 Posted August 21 From the contract extension, total loyalty and now the no competition in camp details a picture that there is more to the story than we know. Star defensive ends maybe get this treatment, not kickers. Not saying what Bills are doing is right or wrong, just that there must be more. Whatever it is, it can’t be risking losing games, and it feels like it might. 8 3 Quote
Pecker Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Maybe we can sign a young kicker that doesn’t make another team. Prater wasn’t good enough for me to resign. 1 Quote

My issue is he is not being pushed by having another guy on the roster right now. He needs competition to bring out the best in his game. Problem is he had a bit of a down period prior to his injury and assuming he comes back from all that a better kicker is suspect. Hope I’m wrong. Again, feel they have a plan if he is a problem this year. If they don’t, that would be criminal. Quote
BillsFooteball Posted August 21 Posted August 21 I think the one thing ALL Bills fans can agree on is that at the very least, we need a kicker competition. They are being way too fragile with him. I have zero confidence in him in a big moment and honestly, I doubt Bass has much confidence in himself right now either. 1 Quote
BillsFooteball Posted August 21 Posted August 21 A legitimate competition might be good for Bass too. If he wins it, great he’s got some confidence that he earned the job. If he doesn’t, Bills have a replacement before the games actually matter. Quote
oldmanfan Posted August 21 Posted August 21 I think Bass has lost confidence, but you can go out any morning and bring in a half dozen kickers to try out. No reason to panic. 1 Quote

Gregg Posted August 21 Posted August 21 I would imagine that if Bass has a poor game Saturday night, then the Bills will bring in another kicker to give Bass competition. Quote

Another option for at least competition I believe Matthew wright is still out there. Very small sample size but went 5/5 and 4/4XP in stint last year with bills. 2 Quote
BuffaloBillyG Posted August 21 Posted August 21 Yes, it's getting beyond ridiculous at this point. I've never seen a team so loyal to a shakey kicker. Unfortunately, it seems like it would take Bass losing us a few games for them to say "You know, this Bass guy ain't it" 1 4 Quote
