A lot of folks on here were losing their minds when we drafted Davison Igbinosun, and honestly, the reaction was way overly critical.

I get where the frustration came from initially. If you watched him at Ohio State, the grabby play and the flags would drive fans batty. But look at the actual body of work—the guy put up great stats, and more importantly, his penalties dropped off dramatically in his final college season once he dialed in the technique.

Everything we’ve seen out of camp and preseason tells me this kid is a pure competitor. Is he going to get flagged sometimes as a rookie? Probably. Is he going to take some lumps adjusting to NFL receivers? Almost certainly. But what you are getting is pure nastiness, legitimate toughness, and a guy who flat out refuses to back down from anyone. He’s got the ideal physical traits and he’s ridiculously sticky in press-man.

I mentioned this in another thread, but his real value is going to show up on high-leverage downs. When we dial up a blitz on 3rd-and-medium and the DC needs corners who can get in a receiver's face, disrupt the timing, and hold up on an island for 2.2 seconds to let the rush get home, Igbinosun is built for that exact role.

Yeah, it's just preseason, but you can't teach that kind of edge. I really like what I'm seeing from him so far.

I had him as a 3rd round prospect. I mean we’ll see how he does. Fits Leonhards scheme to a T . I was probably the only one who was willing to talk about CB in the first or 2nd round and held pretty steadfast that it was a bigger need than people wanted to believe.

So far looks like he’s doing well. Let’s hope that continues

That short video was pretty compelling, he is like glue on receivers and doesn't seem to give up on the play, constantly tying to knock the ball lose.  I can understand why he get in a fight with Josh Palmer, the guy doesn't let up.  He would be so obnoxious to go up against in practice.

There is a fine line between playing strong, physical in coverage -- and being "handsy" (drawing flags). If IGB is able to do the former, he will turn out to be a real gem.

You mean like Sauce Gardner?  He got away with a lot when he first came into the league, now enough film out there and other team alerting officials to it, he has a reputation now with the officials much more willing to throw a flag.

I'm taking a pre-season pledge to not over or under react to how we look in a practice setting.

Good rule, we should never express optimism or have doubts about players during the off season.  As a a matter of fact, lets have a rule about not having opinions about football players until the season begins. 🙄

He probably practiced against better players at OSU than he’ll be seeing in the NFL at times. So there’s that. He’s seen serious  talent up close before and is used to battling.

A couple of those are straight up pass interference, or at minimal holding.

We will see. I didn't like his college film (and I don't really think he got better his final year, he got a bit luckier) and I haven't loved the clips I've seen from camp either. But Ronald Darby had a rough camp and pre-season then had an excellent rookie year. So it can turn.

But no, I'm not yet ready to eat any humble pie.

good - because you don't know what we have in IGB. Either do I or anyone else until the season starts. You have no clue if he will be a good player or not. He's never played in an NFL game. But, his toughness sure fits the D and lenrod, so theres that.

As a resident hater, and Ohio State fan, I didn’t like the pick (at all). I still don’t. I watched him make too many costly mistakes to be swayed by what he does at St. John Fisher. We will see but the hate wasn’t overblown. It was driven by us that are most familiar with him.

I disagree, I think once a label was tagged on him then any time he had or has his hands on someone it will illicit a reaction of "See, There he is with his hands on someone and he could have been called for a flag."    Many good DB's are very handsy, just that they are good at not getting called for it.  He clearly was better his senior year, and the proof is in the lack of penalties, everything aside from that is just talk.

And no, he has looked good this camp, I can't tell you how many good clips I have seen from him, I'm not saying he is going to be a day 1 starter, but what I am saying is that he is looking a lot better than what many were saying and he looks the part.

Are you accusing this fanbase of overreacting to things they see online? That's unpossible.

I think he not only fits the scheme, but the overall aggressive play style that Leonard is looking for. I can handle a CB getting a bit of yellow thrown at him.

Issue was - traded up for the pick; drafted a CB in the first last year; just paid another CB. A lot of resources when there were other needs. Could be a good player but if that is the case then likely Benford or Hairston are not.
