Winnebago Man Posted August 15 Posted August 15 My general observations from today’s game: On Offense: 1. It wasn’t too surprising that Josh Allen and James Cook both looked sharp, but it was great to see nonetheless. I was impressed with Josh’s touch on a couple of his passes, especially the first down pass to D.J. Moore. Cook has great vision. 2. D.J. Moore certainly looked worth the second-round pick that we gave up to get him. I just hope that his injury is a simple ankle tweak and not a high-ankle sprain, as those tend to linger. 3. The pass protection was concerning, regardless which group was on the field. Particularly the tackles. Jude Bowry got beat pretty badly on several occasions, although I was impressed with his general athleticism. Hopefully, it is something that improves. 4. Outside of D.J. Moore, Khalil Shakir looked good. Keon had a few nice catches and didn’t make any egregious errors. Dante Pettis should be cut after it looked like he gave up on a long pass from Kyle Allen. It wasn’t a perfectly thrown ball, but it looked like he stopped running and he didn’t try to lay out for it. He definitely disappointed there. 5. Keleki Latu looked good as a receiver. 6. I appreciated the hard running from both Frank Gore Jr. and Ian Wheeler – especially Wheeler. They both fought for extra yardage on every attempt. 7. The backup quarterback play was better than I thought it was going to look. Kyle Allen mostly took what the defense gave him. I appreciated Buechele’s willingness to take some deeper shots – one of which drew a PI penalty. Neither inspires much confidence, but they didn’t as perform poorly as reported from the practices. Maybe it is an encouraging sign our defensive unit is tough? On Defense: 1. I thought that the starting defensive line looked pretty dynamic. I really liked the stunts that they ran, allowing Deone Walker and Ed Oliver to be more disruptive. Deone Walker looked like a force to be reckoned with out there. 2. Terrell Bernard looked more capable playing the Will Linebacker position. I think using him to fire and shoot gaps/blitz is a better use of his skill set than playing the Mike in this scheme. 3. Apart from the PI penalty, I liked what I saw from Kaleb Elarms-Orr. I know that he has 4.47 speed, but he looked fast and instinctive. He sniffed out a few passes to runningbacks and receivers in the flats that could have gone for more. He was a sure tackler, too. 4. Dorian Williams made a couple of plays. Hopefully, he comes back 100% from his injury. It would be nice to have some depth at LB. 5. Buffalo Joe may have trouble making the roster this year. To me, it seemed that Keonta Jenkins made more plays and was more consistently around the ball. 6. Both Jordan Hancock and Jalon Kilgore looked good. They both flashed. 7. He may be a long shot to make the 53, but Toriano Pride impressed me today. They guy is a solid and willing tackler, especially for a guy of smaller stature. 8. Kani Walker’s interception was a high football IQ play. He read screen from the beginning and jumped the route. I can see why the staff is high on him. 9. On the D-Line: a. While he got a sack, I didn’t come away overly impressed with TJ Parker. He definitely seems like he needs to add mass and strength to his frame. b. Javon Solomon looked to be more disruptive to me. c. Mike Danna got a few sacks, but as someone who has played a fair amount in previous seasons, racking up stats against practice squad level players isn’t too impressive. d. Landon Jackson was able to disrupt things a bit. He almost had a sack on a play and forced the QB out of the pocket. He still looks stiff to me, though. Special Teams: 1. I wish we would bring in a kicker to challenge Tyler Bass. His miss from 44-yards was atrocious. He can’t seem to kick from the right hash. It is a problem. 2. Seeing Ray Davis return punts was interesting. 3. I can’t see rostering Mecole Hardman just for his return ability and the occasional gadget play. 11 1 Quote

Sierra Foothills Posted August 15 Posted August 15 2 hours ago, KHAN said: It was nice to see Shakir reacquaint himself with the turf past the line of scrimmage. The above is just one of dozens of really positive signs to come out of today's game. I'm trying to keep a lid on my optimism and not overreact as we all do. For context our opponent today: Went 8-9 last year and tied for 1st place in the NFC South. Lost in the Wild Card Round to the Rams 31 to 34. Played a game last week so arguably should have been a bit farther along than the Bills. On the other hand: We beat this team 40-9 last year. They lost 4 of their last 5 regular season games last year. So this was a good test and the Bills dominated even without their starting safeties. 2 hours ago, ***** said: I saw Bowry give up at least two sacks and two other immediate pressures that blew up the play. He is “only” 6’4” and the Bills like their tackles taller. I wonder if they shift him inside to G if/when someone else steps up to be the swing T. When he was drafted I swear there was talk of him being moved to G Dion Dawkins is not tall but he has a long wingspan (83+ inches). Bowry's wingspan is 82+ inches which is 6'10" and considered very good. He's a plus athlete and in my mind he'll be just fine... just another thing I'm not gonna overreact to. 1 hour ago, zow2 said: Can people just chill around the new stuff? It cooks out there when it’s nice out. It always has. It was hot in the sun today. That’s a thing probably through October. It’s gray then so it doesn’t matter which side after that. I think that the shade side is a good move for the Bills. 3 1 Quote

Can fans finally hear the PA announcer and the refs? Same old train horn and it's used every 3rd and 4th down. The PA was unintelligible (I was in section 448) for the 1st half but got much better after. I could not make out anything said on the video board. As far as the new stadium goes, views of the field are outstanding. Tje overhang kept the sun off us and was a great add. The Bisons and circle are both great. However, I was a bit disappointed in what $2 billion buys you. Beautiful outside and meh inside. Lots of concrete, exposed conduit and supports. Looked industrial and sterile in the upper concourses. I guess I expected better esthetics. Not whining, just a bit underwhelmed given the hype. Oh, our new D looks live and for real! 1 Quote

Even though they are more vanilla in preseason, the new offense and defense coordination looked good so far! The stadium showed up great on TV! Decent fan noise, especially for a pre-season game. I thought the crowd noise seemed muted like they don’t have the balance right yet. Maybe too the kids day crowd isn’t as loud. Quote

The offense overall (with the starters) reminded me alot more of the daboll years. Both sides of the ball seemed alot less neutered for lack of a better term. However, it is pre season. Cautiously optimistic for this coaching staff That dude is so smooth and just has great body control. He might end being better than Diggs was here with Allen. 2 Quote
