Bills-Panthers Traffic PSAs

From a local:

 

1.  Tailgaiting has begun.  I've never seen that at 7:30a for the first preseason game, but here we are. 

2.  Abbott is closed.  Traffic on Southwestern is starting to build. 

3.  As of 7:45a, 20A was backed up headed westbound from the stadium to nearly California. 

4.  If you don't want to tailgate, and don't want to burn $70 parking, and are willing to walk/run a bit, you can *try* to park for free on Bentley, Liberty, and Airmont.  Bentley is the best of those locations (just south of Wings), and Airmont/Liberty are going to be about 2mi walks each way from car to gate.

Looking for a tip for anyone who's there today since I can't go; 

 

Can someone please advise if you park at Hammers, can you go south on Abbott and then make a left (heading east) towards the village of OP on big tree, or will they automatically route you West?

Probably, but I'm not sure.  You're going to be looking at a ton of traffic though.  Better off going south on Abbott to Armor Duells (assuming it's open again, which I believe to be the case) and cutting over toward the south end of the village from there.

90 west is a disaster. It’s backed up from beyond the blue water tower. We are still in gridlock by the mall. There is a car broken down down in the middle lane by the 33 as well. This will be our longest commute in years.

I have not been to the stadium yet, and I really haven't been down that way since construction actually began.  So, I am not familiar with the traffic patterns.  I am going to the open practice on Tuesday, but have no idea where the lots are and where to go.  Coming from a ways away.  Usually when we went to the old stadium, we would come through Lockport and take Transit Road all the way straight to the stadium.

 

So, my question is, is this still viable with the new traffic patterns?  Can I access the lots coming from that direction?  It sounds like an absolute mess down there and am kind of worried about what to expect.  If anyone can help me out here since I am not as familiar with the area as a lot of you, it would be appreciated.

I actually took a ride down there on my bike today and spoke with the sheriffs and they said they will not let traffic turn east or west and will route everyone down towards armor duels.

Toom me an hour and 5 minutes to get to the stadium from North Amherst.  The 90 and Big Tree were an absolute crap show.

The construction there is a major problem, Bills aside.

If armor duells is tight,  then keep going until you hit newton, bang the left, and then left again on Chestnut Ridge

Took almost an hour from the 219/20A exit to Abbot this morning, after 11am. Why so late? Someone (the wife) wanted to sleep in and asked if we could leave later. A trip that normally takes me 2.5-3 hours on a game day morning from Syracuse, took almost 4 hours.

Good. I had my return last week after practice planned out that way, but they were making us turn right onto Big Tree, and not letting us go straight.

We left this morning about 9:45AM from near Cazenovia Park. Came in on Abbott from the north. It was pretty smooth and easy. But yeah, we wanted to get there early so we could get into the stadium early and check it all out.

Yeah my plan is to just park east of the field house on the south side which is usually an easy out to the ville.

Is that now a living hell to get to?

It’s still a win for you!  I was a kid still standing outside when Herb Mulkey ran back the opening KO at the old place. Nobody expects opening preseason day in the new place to be the big deal it is. Congrats on being there for that milestone.

 

I don’t remember the regular season opener, but I remember clearly my first time in the new stadium in 1973. That is a lasting memory.

I think the biggest problem is that people aren't used to ~90% of the crowd arriving all at once. These certainly aren't typical preseason games. When the season starts and the real tailgating begins, fans will be arriving 5+ hours (even more for the night games) before the game and slowing trickling in. Leaving will always be a PITA, however.

What is the cheapest parking? I gave my tickets away for the game to my aunt and she said it was $80 at Bert’s bikes. That’s ridiculous.

Coming down California from Milestrip places were showing $50 to park.  Paid $30 on a side street off California; got there at 11 - no traffic coming in and left in middle of 4th Q. Slow traffic but always moving on way back. 35 minutes from Kenmore each way. One mile or so walk into stadium.
