I find it interesting that players are now taking shorter deals so that they can probably get another monster contact in a few years again instead of just renegotiating their current contract

I can’t say I follow the Cowboys closely enough to know who their high priced players are. Seems like Dak and CD Lamb on offense? Now Williams and who else on defense? Anyone else?

I’m surprised Jerruh didn’t find a way to drag this out an extra year or two while the price went up. Is he OK? Should we ask for a wellness check?

it's interesting to me they swapped out young pass rush super phenom mikah because they didn't want to pay him, but then trade a 1 for q and extend him.  did any of their coaches have a link to the jets and their coaching staff?  

 

there is an interesting comparison between us and dallas on the d side.

 

both teams changed their D coaching in a big way.  we shipped out lots of marginal players, they shipped out some top flight talent for some other top flight talent (im guessing the rookie S from OSU is a day one stud).  we signed potential impact roll players (which is really our thing tbh) w CJ, alford, chubb.  we also drafted some with IGB and Parker, and drafted some more last season with TJ and Jackson and Walker (i think walker becomes a top flight guy tho).

 

we've had a good defense that becomes cheeks in the post season, they've had just an all time horrible D.  both teams have tippy top of the stack offenses.

 

how these two teams do this season will be super interesting to watch.  i'd love nothing more than both to go on a run, and for us to absolutely destroy them in the superbowl, running up the score, breaking hearts, and going on a dynastic run to avenge the wrongs of the past.

They gave up a lot to get him he will be 29 this year so this locks him up from age 30-32 which is right in the last prime or near prime windows for a DT.

I wondered that when they ended up trading for him given they were going to end up paying a decent salary to him.
 

Turns out Parsons didn’t feel ~40m a year was enough and made it known he wouldn’t play for the Cowboys, essentially rendering future franchise tags that would come into play useless and demanded a trade. 
 

I like Parsons, great player but Cowboys made the smarter option in acquiring those draft resources, trading for another game wrecker and extending him.

to me stuff like this comes down to what the team knows about the players.

 

dallas knows more than anyone about parsons, so they had an info advantage.  i think q and garrett are studs and teams traded them because they suck and need to rebuild, so less of a disadvantage for dallas on those.

We are way past that point. This is too easy not to be the son’s maneuvering. I think the family will be alright following Jerry’s stint as patriarch. They’ve witnessed first hand practically every way to screw up “America’s Team”, without capping the well. They’ve seen success too, just not always on the field.

Yeah this dude is a beast, costs a lot of money but ya gotta do what ya gotta do... I cannot see them losing Parsons and him... that would be really bad.

Spot on. You don’t part ways with a guy who was as pivotal for them as Parsons. Especially when he’s collected 12+ sacks each season. 
 

Openly stating he wants traded on top of the contract issues when $40m is generous makes it seem like they knew further problems would come down the road.

Quinnen's total is $30M/ year.  The 'Boys have him for the next five years and $150M.

true, but it's also possible jerry jones is a huge egoist and just cut off his nose to spite his own face.

What makes it more interesting is that it hasnt been increasing exponentially.  Obv the whole covid year jacked predictions up, we knew they'd eventually have to play catchup... but it seems to have flattened out.  By % of increase, the caps growth has slowed a ton.... but 2026 has a lower overall dollar increase, than 2025 did.

 

I think what we might be seeing is teams choosing the shorter deals, and being willing to increase guaranteed $$ in exchange for the future flexibility.

Yes, I’m aware the contracts are massively different between Q and Micah but the Cowboys reportedly offered him significantly more guaranteed money, around $200m of the reports were correct. My point is the average per year was less than what he got from GB but not by much. In fact, less overall when you factor in guarantees.

Wouldn’t put it past him but given the whole Prescott stalemate and concurrent Lamb hold out, he probably figured Parsons would eventually cave or they could land someone at a later date who was disruptive for their defense. Turns out he was right if that was the case lol

Man, I'm so glad I'm not a Cowboys fan. Tons of talent, and yet they have only 7 wins each of the last two years. They have only 1 playoff win since 2019.
