I don't care what any body says this is one hell of a good guy & a great coach ! Sure he didn't take our team to the big game but by some of his answers you can tell he was part of & IMHO always will be part of the Bills Mafia !!

While here & I think through out the rest of his career he will bleed Bills red, white & Blue & he put the team & the Bills fans before he did him self as a coach of the team . His perspective is great on every thing I heard in his answers .

I wish him good luck unless of course he plays the Bills & believe 1 day he will win a SB because of what he learned while being the coach of the Bills !!

Seems to be in a good place. Good for him.

I'll always be a McD fan.

Wild take, far bigger a-holes with way worse track records of success have gotten jobs year after year in the NFL

Bigger jerk HC's?  Sure.  But how many could squander the talent of Josh Allen to run predictable offensive and defensive schemes year after year?  McD did.

The Bills must have had terrible offensive and defensive rankings year in and year out I guess

If the Bills take the next step this year with Brady and Leonhard, it will not reflect well on McDermott…it’s hardly a given that he will get another HC gig.

Agreed.

And It's going to get real interesting if we take a step back.

With our schedule, it’s entirely possible…

It’s hard to imagine this defense playing any smaller in big time games but we shall see.

Apparently I'm the jealous type because just the mere thought of McDermott stalking Mary Lou makes my blood boil!

For his sake this had better not be true...

I think you're misinterpreting his intent. He probably just wants to give her a Bible and find out if she has accepted Jesus Christ as her personal lord and savior.

Squander would be missing the playoffs multiple times..  Sean Payton had Hall of Fame Drew Brees in his prime and missed the playoffs five times

The bills never missed the playoffs after Josh Allen became really really good...

We just didn't get over the hump but guess what 31 teams don't... We literally scored 27-28 points a game for years... We had multiple defenses in the top five and 10 of the NFL they just didn't win the Super bowl.. and guess what health in the postseason had a lot to do with it too

He didn't get over the hump he didn't squander anything.. squander anything would be missing the playoffs we went to two AFC championship games and won a playoff game five straight years .. five offensive turnovers is a bigger reason we lost the Denver broncos last year not the defense.. without five turnovers they don't even gets close to scoring 30 and the bills win in regulation..  that's on the players

He just didn't win the ultimate prize... Sean Payton didn't go to the playoffs five times with a first ballad Hall of Fame quarterback.. that's squandering in those seasons

A Super bowl takes as much luck as skill to win because it takes some balls bouncing your way.. the bills have been in the final four or eight consistently the last 6 years

Making a couple of plays here there is the difference.. if brandin Cooks holds on to that ball through the ground and we kicked the field goal and win.. going into foxboro next week it's a completely different story

When the game is on the line players need to make plays.. you can't turn it over five times in a playoff game either... If the offense didn't do that the Bills win comfortably vs Denver

The last time the bills played a playoff game .. sloppiness on the offense squandered the game

for dragging our beloved Bills of Buffalo out of the dregs of irrelevance and establishing a legitimate, winning culture he'll forever have a place in my heart

McDermott gets a lot of credit for turning the Bills around from the POS organization that they were and rightfully so. He seems like a class act and a good guy, but I don't think he will ever win the Super Bowl. He will never have a QB as good as #17. He just seems to choke in the big moments of playoff games. We have seen this for nine years now. I wish him well also except when facing the Bills.

Did Seattle? Did Philly?

McDermott never even made it to the Super Bowl with prime, Superman Josh Allen, and in fact he never really got close.  He was a squanderer, like it or not..

This is a great observation.   Kind of ironic he was let go when I still believe you could pinpoint that Denver loss squarely on the shoulders of 17.  Under throwing passes, poor turnovers.   Allen made plays in that game, he also made plays that kept Denver in that game.  Same could be said about the last KC playoff loss, up here when bass missed that fg.   That last drive on that 3rd down play he had singletary wide open in the flat, would of been an easy first down  inside the 10.  Instead Allen tried to thread the needle.  Poor decision on his part.   I don't want to be too hard on Allen.   He is the best qb to ever put on a bills uniform.   But the excuses need to stop for him too and he needs to come thru at the end of a playoff game.

There has been plenty of things to point to but ultimately being the HC it all falls on his shoulders & they ultimately pay the price & I feel McD took it like a man & his sorrow for lack of a better word was as he said for the team & the Bills Mafia so to me that says a lot about him .

But his reaction to the no catch last year frustrated him as much as it did all of us & IF that would have been ruled differently I think the Bills would have went on to beat the Pats & be where they set out to be but that one call is all it took to steel another chance right out from under their feet ...

Next coach of the Jets.

Wouldn’t be surprised. But he is in for a rude awakening when he tries to coach and realizes he doesn’t have the Unicorn and best player in football at QB. IMHO he doesn’t last long if he gets another HC job. 2-3 years max.

I see this take all the time and it fully forgets the fact that he won with Tyrod Taylor as his QB.  It also gives him no credit for building a culture around Allen that allowed him to become who he is at QB.

Exactly.  Josh was far from a sure thing when drafted.  But McD identified Josh as a smart kid of high character. That is as important as talent, and what a lot of people overlook. Then they developed him properly.  Most teams don’t do that either.

i could see McD coaching in Carolina soon.  Their new owner seems like a hot head, and if they have a down year, and a coach like McD lives down the street, and his dream job is your job…..

id hate to see him in Jersey, but the jets are a no brainer hire.  Give him a 6 year contract and have him rebuild your entire organization and culture.  If he’s falling short again you don’t extend him and go with a new guy to get over the hump…..
