I'm not a fan of paying for another good not great player especially at a non-premium position. But I'll wait to see what the numbers look like.

My thought is this means Dawkins is probably gone next year and Beane has made it a point not to lose more than 1 starting OL per year. I get the logic behind it. Just not the position I would prioritize.

Why do they have to be related?  Cap goes up every year

I'm going to guess 4 years $55m with $35m guaranteed.

I’m thinking it’s 4 years closer to $38-$40m

I don't think he'd sign for less than $17.5M per. I think anything north of $21M per would be a win for Torrences camp.

My prediction is a 3-4 yr extension @ about $19M per.

Protecting Josh. Forget about the money. Torrence is better than drafting or signing more risk. This is the kind of move you’d want Beane to make. Im not concerned. Beane doesn’t really overpay extensions. In fact, id say his extensions are one of his best GM abilities? I think he’s smart to make it sound like he’s always up against the numbers. If he said, “hey everybody! we have a ton of money to spend on free agents and extensions!” that would work against him as the GM. I’m trusting Beane on this one and completely moving on to what’s next.

If Dawkins shows he’s got two or three more good years after this season, which is entirely possible, Torrence’s contract will be forgotten. I’m guessing Beane would absolutely tie up Dawkins instead of the alternate.

My guess: 4yrs $66m, whatever guaranteed.

David Edwards just got 4 years at $61m with $45m guaranteed.

Matthew Bergeron just signed a 4 year $90+m deal.

Anyone expecting less than $70m total value should brace themselves.

I think Dawkins could extend his career if he kicks inside to LG at some point in the future.....wonder if there is any thought of doing this maybe two seasons from now........

Kind of unprecedented though, no? He’s a name at Left Tackle. I’m sure he could do it, but these big dog types don’t really do that. Alex Rodriguez going to third when he was still the best shortstop comes to mind. Only Jeter could trigger that. But I understand Dawkins isn’t that caliber and is older at this point. I understand what you’re saying.

I'm all for extending him at a good but not crazy rate. He's 26, so if they lock him in for the next 4 years that's locking him in for the rest of his 20's. Keeping a guy in his prime along the O-line is a major positive. Of course an overpay is bad but I am thinking that given that Torrence is on the last year of his deal he is probably willing to sign a more friendly deal in order to avoid getting hurt in his last year and losing the chance at a big contract. I am thinking 4 years 64 million 35 guaranteed.

I didn't know that.  Holy crap that's an overpay.

Torrence, McGovern and Brown are a great young nuclei for our OL..

McGovern, 28, $13M/yr

Brown, 28, $18M/yr

Torrence, 26, ??????

Dion Dawkins just turned 32... Buffalo could draft somebody at LT in next years Draft and our OL would be quite talented at a controlled cost...

It will be interesting to see what we do at LG longterm as well..

I like this signing a lot..

Bad but not horrible move. I get it. He is young, he is your draft pick, and he keeps the unit intact. I would have not made this deal and let him walk and let someone else overpay.

He's a good player but he has not really gotten any better since his rookie year.

Beane has shown he can plug and play guys on the interior o-line.

Need the cap space for Kinciad, Bishop, future LB, DE, and WR and to eat the dead cap when they possinly move on from Bernard and Bass after this year.
