Is Jim Leonhard actually our prized offseason acquisition

I defended mcd probably longer than I should’ve lol but he really did create kind of a logjam on the coaching staff.  No idea what he saw in babich yet he kept him around.  
 

promoting Brady might seem kinda silly to some looking at just HC but it allowed them to get another HC-ish level guy in Jim Leonard and bring in a veteran offensive mind for Brady to bounce ideas off of in Pete Carmichael while maintaining some semblance of continuity on one side of the ball

That has not typically proven to be accurate.  Look at teams like KC and Houston- as their defenses got better - their offensive points and drives started to decrease.  
 

The teams then began to spend increased funds on D - further hampering the offense.  KC this offseason decided to allow a ton of defensive talent to walk and I expect their offense will need to increase to compensate.

 

In the other direction you see Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati- who all saw their offenses become more potent as their defensive prowess decreased.  
 

I know people think that if the Bills defense suddenly becomes better and they get more possessions that their scoring per possession stays the same and bang- they improve.  It just is not that easy.

Ok so we should hope for less turnovers, stops and worse field position... lol... I am teasing a bit here but serious.... I cannot quite understand the controversy here... assuming your defense plays better and gets you offense the ball quicker, or allows less points, or gives you overall better field position. To me this is   a good thing for the O... not a guarantee...  To however, what I think to be your underlying point and if I am wrong apologies for mis reading your intent...  The original assumption does not guarantee a positive causal effect... meaning dont assume the offense gets better this year if the defense does...  I will not at all disagree with that...  what the offense does with the advantage is on the offense... statistical years have ups and downs.... etc.... So, I agree that a better defense simply would not guarantee a better offense 100%. But boy wouldnt it be nice to give them the chance...

It better not. Josh is 30.  That's the whole reason we dumped Coach McDermott.  Time is running out.  We can't wait several years.

 

Schwartz didn't need several years to turn a bad Rex D into a very good D.  I saw Wade Phillips do it several times in his career.

 

That's what I am hoping for/expecting out of Jim.

I get it, but I think when its a new scheme we as fans are all excited... and then 2 or 3 years later they start talking about the continuity of the scheme... so like you I am in the lets roll mode.... but fact of the matter getting 11 people to execute a new scheme probably looks better after they have had repetition and have played together for a while... I do think alot of the curve will happen early and we will see this round out about mid year to essentially what it will be... jmo

In today’s NFL it doesn’t take thst long.  Next year they draft some and sign some thst fit the system , yr 3 should finish it out well th draft/ free agents if its not done after yr 2.

Allen still has time. Look at Elway he didn't win his first Super Bowl until he was 37. Hopefully Allen can win one before 37, but his career could be similar to Elway.

Honestly, I think what he saw in Babich was a guy who would nod yes to what he wanted...

he also brought in new or not so successful in their past OCs.

 

dennison, who sucked and got the boot.  dabol, who had some college shine in bama, but was poor in NE, left on bad terms.  dorsey, no experience who got canned mid season, and brady, who had college shine and not good results in carolina.  turns out brady (indirectly) sent mcd packing.

 

the theme was lower status coaches who he could lord over, brady got a hot prospect in LEONHARD, fox as a consultant, and Charmichael who has some pretty big bonafides.  big switch up.
