Now add DJ Moore and Dalton Kincaid to the mix, who we didn’t have last year vs them. I’m not saying we’re going to score 30 on that Defense, but as the Bills stand right now vs how the Texans stand right now, (both teams fully healthy) I would be extremely disappointed if it looked like last year. My bigger concern is if Leonhard will have this Defense ready to go from jump as we are going to need to make sure that mediocre Offense in Houston doesn’t find their groove knowing what our Offense is up against. I think the Bills the last 8 games v the first are two different teams. A team like Houston which is matchup nightmares all over was one I did not want early on for those reasons. Both sides need time to figure themselves out, more the defense then the offense but even Moore and how he fits will take a little. If this game was later in the season I would feel a lot better. Buffalo has far more change and adjustment needed then Houston out of the gate which is a big advantage. Also the Bills have just had atrocious luck in Houston for a decade plus. Maybe this is the year it all changes, but easier for me to build a fear bunker expecting the worst lol. Quote

The film of him steamrolling some hapless 225 pound OT widely circulated prior to the draft did him no favors. He’s a favorable comparison to Rousseau IMO. Clowney has been my comp for Rousseau since before he was drafted. Plays the run very well, primarily a bull rusher, poor bend and lateral agility and does well at pressures but not at turning pressures into sacks. Best as a complimentary edge in a defense that prioritizes having one power edge to primarily play the run and clean up. 2 Quote

My original point wasn't about him being better or worse than someone like Aj Epenesa, it was about him being overpaid for his production his entire career. He never lived up to draft hype and consequently overpaid. I 100% agree. 1 Quote
Bill from NYC Posted August 4 Posted August 4 It seems to be a smart signing imo. Will Anderson is the best defensive player in the NFL, and I'm not even sure there is a close second. Even at his age, Clowney might be able to put up some reasonable sack numbers playing opposite Anderson because of the coverage he demands. If Clowney has anything left, it could even give Houston an opportunity to rest Anderson at times. The Houston defense was already great. If Josh Allen was their qb they might be undefeated. Quote
dave mcbride Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Clowney is and always has been a good player. Don't get too hung up on the sack numbers. He is a guy who blows up plays and is a phenomenal run defender. Sure, he was drafted high, but looking past that the Texans added another good player. I'm kinda dreading week one, but maybe Josh pulls it off for the Bills. Quote

Averages 5.5 sacks a year. Never had 10 sacks in a season. Made 101,000,000 million, which comes out to 1.5 million dollars a sack. We give Groot a lot of crap for not having great sack numbers but he is a deal compared to Clowney. $101 million over 12 seasons plus probably around $5 million this year if he stays healthy is $8 million a year. It's not that much, and as I say above, he's a very good player who people dish on simply because of where he was drafted. Quote

I mean he is the only edge rusher in NFL history to make 100 million dollars with less than 70 career sacks. I agree he is a good player. I also think he has been grossly overpaid in his career. 1 Quote

I know he’s not what he used to be, but with that defense already, good thing we face the Texans week one. Hopefully it’ll take the entire Texans defense a few games (at least one 😃) to warm up to what they’re used to being. Go Bills! That defense is so stacked it's sickening. 1 Quote

C.Biscuit97 Posted August 4 Posted August 4 He never become a game wrecking DE you expect with a 1st round pick. But he’s had a solid career and made really good money. That’s a solid pick up for a great defense. Quote
