He's not Bill belichick but he's absolutely still very good and very respected.. if the bills drafted Sam darnold he is handled and developed better here than he was by the Jets.. same with Baker..  the bills would have handled those guys better than they did and they would have messed up Josh... 100% jets would have gotten nothing out of Josh like an MVP...

 

the talent level changed on the defense 

 

We haven't drafted a pro bowler on defense in 8 years.. we had really good talent we were good 

 

Didn't get over the hump but he's not a bum.. he is still universally respected 

 

He certainly made C level players, b level players for the majority of his career here 

 

Including developing many late round picks... He's better than a lot of head coaches still he's not some atrocious bum 

 

He's also the only coach with a winning regular season record against Andy Reid besides Bill belichick who has played at least five times and guess what you need to win in the regular season to make it to the postseason.. that's still impressive

 

After getting fired he's not as bad as what some Bills fans here have made out to 

If he gets a HC job in the NFL next year I will donate $250 to your favorite charity.

I wish him luck. Like I said he seems to be a fine human being and always stood up for the Buffalo community.  For that he gets my admiration and respect.

While I agree with this sentiment it's also a waste of time/energy with the majority of this fan base, as they are simply averse to the reality of what you are suggesting.

 

For whatever reason, so many Bills fans here have come to loathe this last Buffalo Bills head coach like he was the worst of some of the worst coaches of the last few decades. Rex Ryan, Doug Marrone, Dick Jauron, and Gregg Williams. Never mind all the success he has had as the Buffalo Head Coach, as they attribute that to the QB. It's literally impossible to convince them otherwise. 

 

Just know that he was also at the mercy of the man who was drafting (We haven't drafted a pro bowler on defense in 8 years..) His defense relied on having some sort of strong pass rush that he simply didn't have- that dominant pass rusher. Plus, his players simply couldn't stay healthy on defense or with the receivers. I find it remarkable that he was able to field a #1 pass defense with a rag-tag batch of young/older players in the secondary despite not having a strong pass rush to help them. 

 

Perhaps at some point in the future, this fan base will acknowledge what a good coach he was for Buffalo instead of all the ridicule he currently faces. Who knows?

He also had, THE WORST DEFENSE IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL in playoff losses. When you have Josh Allen, you will always play in those games. When you have Sean McDermott, you’ll always give up lots of points in those games. There’s no need for some 5 paragraph response defending him. That just is what it is and that’s why he’s gone. We are better off for it…

Remember when the Bills won four road games in 12 days after a Buffalo blizzard canceled a home game. We don’t have to hate McDermott, or cancel his accomplishments.  He is a great human being by all accounts and a winner as a head coach. I hope the gets an another chance, he fukin deserves it.  And yes I was in favor of the Bills changing coaches.

The Rams didn't hire him, so nothing to worry about. Worry about Aaron Donald. That looks like it will happen.

That in itself should be enough said.   Andy Reid did make it to one SB, but overall his record in Phil was worse than McD and he got a 2nd chance.  There's a long list of coaches who got 2nd and even 3rd chances who have done much worse, Dan Reeves, Marty Schottenheimer,  Pete Carroll, John Fox.  Some of the names did finally win one at some point, but many never did.  So can't see any reason to think Mcd won't get another job when you look at history in the NFL.

When he first broke on the scene I called him the boy band singer coach with the hair and youthful looks. He has now aged some and looks like a boy band reunion singer coach.
