Thanks. #16 huh? For a kicker, not Joe Montana. Hmmm. If I were to watch a two minute video of a mystery place kicker on day five of training camp, I guess I’m qualified to say this: hmmmmm, I don’t like it! 🤣

Not sure how this changes anything TBH...

 

He battled last year then surgery then a tough rehab and he didnt feel himself again until midway thru OTAs.

 

Nothing groundbreaking.  We will see how he does in camp and preseason, clearly the team isnt concerned enough to sign competition yet.

Whats groundbreaking is there aren’t any other kickers currently on the team when he missed the entire season due to undisclosed injury and he’d already lost his confidence. I’m praying Prator is on speed dial!

Groundbreaking that we didn't sign a kicker?!  We knew that, with or without this interview from Bass.

 

The team has confidence in Bass, they've seen him kicking and rehabbing back to form.  Not sure why we need to pray Prater is on speed dial --- you just have your mind made up that Bass is done

Talk in Indy is Grupe is winning their kicking job, if he's available I'd have the Bills talk about getting Spencer Shrader in here whether a trade or a PS signing. As he could be good insurance if Bass struggles.

Tomorrow’s the day, is it. I know nothing but I’m sure Beane has a plan no matter the outcome. He saved our ass last year grabbing Prater like he did. That was GM gold.

@Augie I moved the conversation over here to not derail the TC thread.

 

Whether they are protecting his pschye, or not wanting to admit a mistake, it does not matter. We have competiton all over this roster. A guy that has statistically been a below average player should not be the guy that doesn’t have to earn the job. If he earns it, great. If he’s so fragile that they are concerned that competition might break him, he’s not the guy. 
 

I was a huge fan of the Bass pick at the time. He performed well early in his career. When they elected a pay cut instead of cutting him, it surprised me a little. If they believe he can be the guy, I get it. I do not understand, and will not understand, how they can be so confident that he is the guy, that he didn’t have anyone to compete with. They haven’t let him kick in front of a crowd until today!!  
 

I guess from where I’m sitting, even if Bass is 100% this year on all tries, it makes no sense. The process is the problem regardless of the results. If he’s the best guy he will have the opportunity to produce those results.

Joe Marino on his podcast said Bass was actually 5 for 7 with misses from 43 and 51. He was at TC and watching and is confident with that he saw.

There is a lot we don’t know about this. I will put my trust in the new powers that be, for now. Whether that looks prescient or foolish remains to be seen, but I’ll let it play out before judging them and how they handled it. I will say, if it were ME there would be another kicker out there. But it’s their call, and I’ll see how it turns out. Give them as much rope as it takes, and hope they don’t hang themselves.

I’ve taken the stance that they know the whole story and we don’t but… I’ve got to concede that this has become an utterly bizarre situation to observe and it’s increasingly difficult to chalk up as just needing to trust the process.
