Has Bass even had the yips? From what I can tell he’s been perpetually injured almost his whole career. When he’s healthy he’s fine. Not sure why Beane gave him that ridiculous contract.

He went 5 straight years without missing a game before missing all of last year.   Playing 5 straight years with no games missed is not a huge feat for a kicker but how does his history show he is perpetually injured? I think he had a nagging injury once that he played through.

I have a feeling his drop off was because of the injury, and it got worse to the point he had to rest it last year, and he finally got it cleaned up and will be back where he was before he fell off a couple years back.

Unlike many of you I have a lot of faith in Bass-O-Matic. Once he got over that stretch of yips/injuries he was absolutely crushing the ball (during the 2nd half of ‘24). If he is fully healed I’m confident we once again have a very reliable, strong-legged kicker.

I just remember him always being on the injury report. Maybe that is recency bias.

Amazing that he’s the ONLY place kicker on the team! This update doesn’t give me ‘the warms’ about him either.

Beane better keep Prater’s number on speed dial!

Not really. I believe his dead cap # if cut is a hair over $3M. It's not that bad at all.

Yeah. Didn’t he redo his deal this offseason and took a significant pay cut

Kickers are imperfect, but he’s missed way too many important kicks including the KC playoff games. There’s no way they should trust this guy. Seems to struggle in bad weather too.

He did and I don't believe Beane has ever cut a guy who willingly took a salary reduction.

Has any team ever?  If a team asks a guy to take a cut and they say yes, is the team going to say “just kidding, you’re cut anyway”?

Another attempt to stir up a "Why didn't we build a dome?!" controversy.

I was firmly in the “Prater is Greater” camp. Idk how we didn’t take a late round or UDFA flyer on a kicker.

The likelihood of a late pick winning a camp battle is very unlikely. It would’ve only contributed to Bass’s “yips” and that ain’t good. Prater is on speed dial - as are about 15 other gents - who can come in to take over. Screw camp battles, see what the guy can do with nobody nipping at his heels.

More concerned that a recent article about him the Bill's ST coach said he's "healthy enough to kick".

I mean it's been a year at this point hasn't it?? At what point will he just be "healthy"?

It was to cover for him.  Something is going on with him and it hasn't been physical for a long time.

Update from The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle today (possible paywall):

"It has been nearly a year since Buffalo Bills fans have seen Tyler Bass kick a football.

The wait is almost over.

Bass hasn't attempted a field goal during the first five practices of training camp at St. John Fisher University, an intriguing absence for a kicker trying to return after missing the entire 2025 season with hip and groin injuries.

There is no setback, according to Bills special teams coordinator Jeff Rodgers.

Bass has been kicking behind the scenes. The Bills haven't reached the point in their training camp schedule when they want to work extensively on field goals.

That changes Thursday.

Rodgers said the Bills are scheduled to work on field-goal protection as a team for the third time in camp and the first time in pads.

"It hasn't worked out for us to be on the field quite yet," Rodgers said. "That'll happen later on this week and then again at the stadium. But I don't think he skipped steps."
