WhitewalkerInPhilly Posted July 24 Posted July 24 I would be worried if the plan seemed to be "Chuck it to Moore every passing play" It's not. This is a rich man's version of what Amari Cooper was back in 2024. The team has plenty of supporting pieces. "Everybody eats" was trying to make a WR room of all supporting pieces. Oh, the things that Moore does best is to line up on the left half of the field and beat man coverage deep? Great. He could do only that and it would unlock Shakir and Kincaid. 1 Quote

Except he is very inaccurate, terrible at reading defenses or finding open receivers, and isn't even a fraction of the runner that Allen is. Not to mention that he is small compared to Allen (only 6'1" and 220 pounds). So, no, I would not compare him to Allen at all, actually. He reminds me more of Baker Mayfield, but Mayfield is more mobile and more accurate. 1 Quote

Nobody else in the NFL can make the plays Allen makes including Williams, but nobody else in the NFL is making a lot of the play Williams makes now. Saying Baker is more mobile than Williams pretty much tells me all I need to know about the quality of your opinions. Quote

Baker Mayfield has nearly 1,000 yards rushing and 5 rushing TD's over the last three seasons in Tampa, and he gets outside the pocket a lot to extend plays. That's pretty similar to Caleb Williams. Lamar - Mahomes All these QB's are excellent playmakers including Williams. There's just a "something or somethings" else, Allen does that all of them can't. Then there's nothing each of them do, that he can't. My point and I think you agree. Compare Williams to other QB's way before you get to Allen. 1 Quote

It's a completely different playmaking style vs Allen. Totally different players. Mahomes is closer, but not making some of the scramble drill throws Williams made last year. I feel like people didn't actually watch Caleb last year. It was constant adlibbing, winging balls in scramble drills that's seemed uncatchable, yet his guy often came down with it. If you don't feel this way yet give it until the end of the season. Quote

He has showcased his abilities the past few years. He has had nearly 400 yards rushing each of the past two seasons. Mayfield and Williams have almost identical rush success percentages. Mayfield has been yards per attempt than Williams. Plus, stylistically as a passer Mayfield extends plays and makes off script plays all the time. Mayfield is a better passer than Williams. The point is that Williams and Allen should not be compared because there is no real comparison between the two. Caleb Williams is nowhere close. There are other QBs who are better comparisons. Quote

Ayjent Posted July 24 Posted July 24 I think that there is some desire to have Moore mentor Coleman to an extent and utilize both in the red zone. If you look at the Bills weapons they are built to be effective in the red zone, and adding Moore makes them more dynamic outside. I think this also opens up the passing game in other ways as well, especially with the RBs, and I expect Bell to be someone they utilize on the outside opposite Moore when teams try to play the Bills without respecting the boundary last year. The Houston game should be a good barometer of what impact the revamped WR room has right off the bat. 1 Quote

On those 81 targets he caught 50 of them for 682 yards and 6 TDs. So he was pretty good when he WAS targeted. The premium receivers in the league last season (Nacua and JSN) accounted for double that number of targets. If you do double Moore's volume that places him on a pace of 100 receptions for 1364 yards and 12 TDs. Maybe not Nacua, JSN or Chase territory, but in the same spectrum as guys like Amon Ra and Olave. That target range also happens to correlate to Diggs' consistent production as he had between 153 and 164 targets in each of his 4 years in Buffalo. Obviously that would represent the up-side of Moore's production as I doubt he sees the volume in this offense that a prime Diggs saw a number of years ago. Moore's own high-water mark was 162 targets back in 2021, so it is admittedly a stretch to believe that he could hit close to that mark in his age-30 season. Moore was 12th in targets, but 29th in receiving yardage in 2024. That's probably why they dialed him back and sought out different receiving options in '25. He seems to clearly be tracking downwards the past two seasons. I seem him as being a similar addition as Amari Cooper was in 2024. Hope I'm wrong, but my money would be on a 40-50 catch, 600 yards type of season (optimistic estimate is 65/800). 1 2 Quote

However, what I found interesting is that when it was nut cutting time in the Playoffs, who's the guy that they turned to in the most critical situations? Who's the WR that made the big catches when needed? It was Moore and I think that just goes to show you that there is still more there with him that what Chicago put on tape the last couple seasons. I think Moore comes in and leads in target share and yardage by a comfortable amount this year. I'm not saying prime Diggs numbers, but I don't think 85 catches and 1100 yards is out of the question. That would be a terrible disappointment. i think we have way more pass attempts then 24 and 25, and i think moore gets the most targets by a decent margin, which shakir and kinkaid close to each other at 2nd and 3rd. I expect around 1,100 yd that would be a good year That's what the bills need.. I don't think we're going to get a 1400 yd guy Hes gonna be a help to Josh but we didn't bring in a guy who is gonna all pro.. realistically he might not even pro bowl We just need someone to be consistent when given the chance 1,100 a good season? That would be unreal to me. I expect 900ish and 8 tds. This offense will continue to pound the rock. If Shakir and Kincaid stay healthy, both are legit 800 yard guys too. Then sprinkle in Palmer, Bell, Keon, Knox, and backs. Bottom line is Moore brings another very good YAC receiver and he is our best downfield threat as of now. Biggest thing is keeping him, Kincaid, and Shakir healthy. Thats a very good trio to go with our run game +other pieces. Quote

Well 1100 would be great I think that's his peak around 800-1100 while Dalton takes another step is huge and I think he's good for that role He will give us an intermediate threat we've been lacking and can get vertical Edited July 25 by Buffalo716 Quote
Mikey152 Posted July 25 Posted July 25 (edited) I like Matt Harmon and I think he has contributed a lot to mainstream wr analysis beyond the counting stats. That said, you have to take some of it with a grain of salt. He is wrong often because WR data is HIGHLY contextual. just go look at what he said about Curtis Samuel when the bills signed him, for example. DJ Moore is a good receiver with pedigree and track record. His floor is decent and our best #1 since Diggs. His ceiling is probably pretty close to non-2020 Diggs. Some of it will be DJ but most will come down to the offense and what does and doesn’t change. WR (including Diggs) have had a hard time under Brady, but it’s hard to tell if that’s Joe, or Joe executing a complementary approach for McDermott. Edited July 25 by Mikey152 2 Quote
