Inigo Montoya Posted July 22 Posted July 22 (edited) Having the most dynamic QB in the sport, the current rushing champ, and a top 5 O-Line, might Brady decide the best chance for Bills' wins this season, with a transitioning defense, is to take the governor off the offense and let Josh try to score 40 points a game and see who can keep up? This would mean playing a very aggressive stye of defense to try to give the offense as many possessions a game as possible, and being even more aggressive on 4th downs to keep the ball in Josh's hands as much as possible. There are not many squads that can keep up with 17 if you turn him loose. Edited July 22 by Inigo Montoya 11 2 1 2 Quote
balln Posted July 22 Posted July 22 I think they did this with Daboll and Dorsey - and except for :13 it didn’t work. Josh is an all time great. But he can hurt his own team 6 4 Quote

RoyBatty is alive Posted July 22 Posted July 22 (edited) I hope not. No major problems with offense. We ((collectively as a group) often complain Josh tries to be Superman, and too often when he does things go badly. Why tinker with offence as he was OC. The argument could be made McDermott held him back but I discount that. I dont disagree with playing a more aggressive defense. We have Leonhard and a new system so it will be entertaining. We spent massive draft capital on defense, so not at all against more aggressive D conceptually. More important he is now HC, concentrate on the entire team, dont try to supercharge the offense by setting Juosh free. Edited July 22 by RoyBatty is alive 4 1 1 Quote

How many turnovers did he have against Denver? edit: That’s a fair question in response to what I quoted. It’s not just ancient history, he showed he still has that in him as of our most recent game. It’s not hate, but some people seem to have a problem with pointing it out. And yet, I never did get a straight answer. Edited July 23 by Augie 2 3 1 Quote

But he can hurt his own team Yeah but of late (and even somewhat in the Daboll days) they'd only turn him loose when things got desperate and they were behind and needed to score fast. If you turn him loose from opening KO, Bills could build a big lead so even a couple errors may not hurt. Lately the game plan tended to be conservative as many here felt to keep the defense off the field. With that game plan, there was little room, for error by Allen. 3 3 1 Quote

Mikie2times Posted July 22 Posted July 22 We will play with more pace and won't be against quick scores. I think our PPG will go up. I don't expect us to start chucking it all over the field. 3 1 Quote
BillytheKid Posted July 22 Posted July 22 They definitely need to let him pass the ball more. Brady has held Josh back actually. Well either Brady or McDermott has. Not sure which one. His passing numbers have been horrible the last two years. If they want to run the ball 50% of the time they might as well trade Josh and get a game manager at QB and let someone else use Allen the way he is supposed to be used. Sure they score 30 ppg but they could score more if they weren’t holding him back. Its rather annoying to be honest. Im hoping with the addition of John Fox, who helped Manning and the Broncos offense score a record number of points for an NFL offense and the addition of the new OC that coached Drew Brees, that the offense can do what the broncos offense did in 2013, but actually win the Super Bowl. Of course they need to defense to be better or probably won’t matter. Definitely want more passing though and less running. 3 Quote

And I think a big reason for that is that he has never been able to trust the people around him - he feels as if he has to do everything, knowing that his playmakers generally weren't great and were as likely as not to drop catchable balls, and that the Bills' defense was generally going to fail to stop the opposing offense in critical situations. :13 seconds was a perfect example of this. He's been snakebit so many times he probably thinks that the Bills need a two touchdown lead to win games. And he's often not wrong. Edited July 22 by Artful Dodger 3 1 1 Quote
Victory Formation Posted July 22 Posted July 22 I expect things to be very different with Carmichael here.. Lots of new wrinkles and a very different offense.. 5 2 1 Quote

Wait, you know it was “One less than the actual statistics”, but you can’t be bothered to look up the actual statistics? Impressive! But you’re right, I’m a Bills fan, and I know my intent. You just don’t seem to be following along. 2 1 1 Quote
machine gun kelly Posted July 22 Posted July 22 I don’t know of it’s turning loose, but moreso becoming less predictable. Less predictable than Daboll who threw 15 times in a row to start a game, and less predictable where last year Brady ran 100% of the time on 1st down. Just vary it so opponents don’t know what we’ll do. The rush has a place. So does the pass. Keep them guessing. That’s what Shanahan, McVeigh, Lefluer, etc. do. 4 1 1 Quote

It's current spelling is giving me a nervous facial tic! 17 minutes ago, Artful Dodger said: The thing you have to ask is why Allen is prone to boneheaded mistakes, given that he's a very smart guy. I don't agree at this point he is prone to bone headed mistakes, I do think that was true until near the end of the Daboll era. Back then, Josh's main focus was to force the ball downfield, he seldom cared about the check down. Simce then he's become a complete quarterback and if Brady opens up the passing more I think Josh will continue to distribute his passes. 1 1 2 Quote
BillsPride12 Posted July 22 Posted July 22 I'd be more excited about the prospect of turning Josh loose if we had that true stud #1 Wideout on this team. I mean yeah I think Brady will be as aggressive as he can be but the Offense won't look drastically different without having that true #1 WR IMO...we'll see what happens but I think that those that think this Offense is going to change drastically because Brady is the HC now are going to be in for a surprise. 1 Quote
machine gun kelly Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Moore was a fine addition, but if we traded for Brian Thomas Jr., I would’ve been much happier. Maybe Bell works out, but it’s a big unknown. 1 Quote
Malazan Posted July 22 Posted July 22 The issue isn't that they need to necessarily "pass more". It's that they need to be less predictable about when they run / pass. They also need some better execution when they do pass. That's way more important than "passing more". 4 1 Quote
Shaw66 Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Among active QBs, Allen is 10th in passer rating. Not clear to me why people want to "turn him loose." Why shouldn't coaches turn those other QBs loose? I think people continue to dream about the old NFL, 5 years ago, when bombs away was a pretty good strategy. No more. 4 1 1 Quote
